Hi

I have syncro issues in many of my servers. My NTP server points to Google's.
The offset time in many of them are important.
I check my NTP server and I am worry about the offset time and other parameters it shows

remote           refid      st t when poll reach   delay   offset  jitter
==============================================================================
 LOCAL(0)        .LOCL.          10 l    8   64  377    0.000    0.000   0.001
+time1.google.co .GOOG.           1 u   32   64  377   20.776  1061.07   0.027
*time2.google.co .GOOG.           1 u   27   64  377   20.760  1061.10   0.027
+time3.google.co .GOOG.           1 u    2   64  377   20.971  1061.01   0.008
-time4.google.co .GOOG.           1 u    2   64  377   28.596  1060.90   5.215

After restar ntp service

remote           refid      st t when poll reach   delay   offset  jitter
==============================================================================
 LOCAL(0)        .LOCL.          10 l   55   64    1    0.000    0.000   0.001
+time1.google.co .GOOG.           1 u   38   64    1   20.800  1052.43   3.966
*time2.google.co .GOOG.           1 u   37   64    1   20.763  1055.51   2.214
+time3.google.co .GOOG.           1 u   36   64    1   20.972  1054.10   2.244
+time4.google.co .GOOG.           1 u   35   64    1   28.506  1053.50   2.541

Can you help us to understand why is it happening and how to solve it?

Regards

Lara

This output appears to be ntpq. From my understanding offset is the time difference, in milliseconds, between the client and the remote server.

What is the latency of these machines from time(1234).google.com? You can use `ping -c 5 time1.google.com` to determine the RTT.
Do you have a log file for your ntp daemon that could be forwarded?

Hi

This is my NTP server

I2KCIE:~ # ping time1.google.com
PING time1.google.com (216.239.35.0) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from time1.google.com (216.239.35.0): icmp_seq=1 ttl=45 time=21.0 ms
64 bytes from time1.google.com (216.239.35.0): icmp_seq=2 ttl=45 time=20.7 ms
64 bytes from time1.google.com (216.239.35.0): icmp_seq=3 ttl=45 time=20.7 ms
64 bytes from time1.google.com (216.239.35.0): icmp_seq=4 ttl=45 time=20.7 ms

Executing the command at the same time: in 2 servers in my domain and my NTP server:

BILL2:~ # date
Wed Jul  3 15:03:17 CEST 2019
BILL1:~ # date
Wed Jul  3 15:09:34 CEST 2019
I2KCIE:~ # date
Wed Jul  3 15:08:04 CEST 2019

They don't have the same time so I have networking issue because of that.

Regards

Lara

We don't typically troubleshoot specific NTP issues; however, I'd be very curious to see logs from ntpd (or similar) and your ntpd configuration.

That RTT seems fine. Is BILL2 the outlier? What the RTT from that machine?
