You know what they say, "Conservatives fall in line, liberals have to fall in love."   So conservatives believe in hierarchy and so they follow the leader, who ever he might be.  Liberals have to ‘fall in love with their leader’ and then they will support him.

So the vertical/horizontal morality, or social structure, is nothing new, but it is very emphatic currently. 

I personally have a distrust of hierarchy.  Anarchy would be better; trouble is mankind has not progressed far enough socially to make it viable.  It is something to strive for.
