Public DNS server 8.8.8.8 is working fine, but 8.8.8.4 does not respond to pings or nslookup requests for several days now. Did I miss an announcement of that server being taken offline?

All my tests have been from the US Northeast.

$ nslookup -debug cnn.com. 8.8.8.4

;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

Could you post your traceroute result? You can post in the issue tracking system if you are concerned about privacy.

The IP addresses for Google Public DNS are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.
8.8.8.4 is not a valid Google Public DNS Address.

Thanks, Wilmer. Let's blame my aging eyes for reading the secondary address wrong. All is well now.
