On my Macbook Pro running Mac OS 10.5.8 I've been able to add Google's
two DNS servers but I can't remove the DNS server (or the search
domain) that is acquired via DHCP. The DHCP-provided DNS server is
the "top" one in the list and I can't move or delete it (it's grayed
out). I'm using a Time Capsule for wireless connectivity, and my
Internet is provided via Comcast Cable modem.

Thanks for any help or suggestions!

I am not a Mac user, however it sounds like you need to turn off the
option to obtain DNS automatically (DHCP). The options that are greyed
out indicate it was set by dhcp.
