Google's Public DNS servers incur a 166ms latency when accessed from
Australia, making it slower to use these than those of one's ISP.

150ms from France. Far slower than my ISP's 30ms.
A good idea though. I hope they speed it up.

346ms from the Philippines (ISP is Smart Broadband Incorporated).

Pinging 8.8.8.8 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=363ms TTL=241
Request timed out.
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=342ms TTL=241
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=333ms TTL=241

Ping statistics for 8.8.8.8:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 3, Lost = 1 (25% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 333ms, Maximum = 363ms, Average = 346ms

In addition to the ping time, there's also the average resolve time.  

For example, if your ISP has a ping time of 20 ms, but mean time to resolve is 1 second, while Google Public DNS has a resolve time of 500 ms, but responds to everything in 1 ms, then the delay you feel will be:
Your Resolver: 1.02 seconds
Google Public DNS: 501 ms.

I doubt your resolver is that bad (hopefully :) ), but in the meantime, do try some comparative queries to see which is faster.  In the meantime, we'll work on our end to get the product closer to you all!
