I am in the Philippines and this morning my Google DNS stopped
working. Ping does not find either server. See traceroute:

Sorry for the problems you're having, Rick. You probably also can't
successfully run:

nslookup -debug www.google.com. 8.8.8.8

though it's worth a try.

If you can't get to 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4, please talk to someone at your
ISP about that. They may have deliberately blocked access, or this may
be caused by some network glitch that can be fixed.

Hope this helps. --PSRC

Tarikul,

If you cannot ping 8.8.8.8 or nslookup -debug www.google.com. 8.8.8.8, please talk to someone at your ISP or your local network administrator about that. They may have deliberately blocked access, or this may be caused by some network glitch that can be fixed.

Dear friends,

I have a peculiar problem like this. I am a system engineer of an private co.

For the problem i have access permission only after router. The accessible equipment only switch and computer.

i discuss for a vlan like 1609, on my network

1. private ip network: 192.168.172.192/29
2. gateway: 192.168.172.193
3. DNS: 8.8.8.8
             8.8.4.4
4. Gateway ping successful with 0% packet loss.
5. Speed maximized to 512kbps
6. 10 vlan on a port, like same speed
7. connection between switch and router multi-mode fiber media, by a port.
8. Fiber distance 6km, SFP used 10km, Optical signal perfect.

Now i'm discussing about problem,

problem 1. Won't ping 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4. But successfully ping public IP, 4.2.2.2, 4.2.2.1, 8.26.247.26 etc

problem 2. some webpage give response like facebook. never response google.com.

problem 3. after changing dns only to 8.26.247.26, i get response from google.com, facebook.com, youtube.com, etc. but not from all, like filehippo.com,alibaba.com, etc.

problem 4. after changing dns to 8.26.247.26, i get response from some site but speed much lower then nominal speed.

Now please give me some solution for these problem. if problem occurs in router, please mention the problem

thank you
Tarikul

Does this problem still exist? Did you ISP give any suggestion on the ping problem? If your ISP can ping 8.8.8.8 but you cannot, maybe the problem exists in your local network.
