Hi,

Some friends and I recently made CourseGrapher.com to visually display
classes at our school (UPenn) and have really liked working with the
Visualization API.
However, Flash is Flash and the old theme is a little frustrating.
It's also tough to control things "from the outside" (ie; select
datapoints using our own html).
We're planning some major upgrades soon and I was wondering when to
expect the beautiful new Motion Chart to hit the Visualization API.
Not sure whether I should plow ahead now or wait a month or so for the
updates.

Thanks, and really fantastic work!

Hi Alex

I really liked what you have done with the motion chart at coursegrapher.com

Regarding the data behind the charts, are you making use of google spreadsheets to store the information?

Going the google spreadsheet -> insert motion chart -> embed on website is an easy way to display these motion charts on one's website, but this route do not seem to allow click on a circle to drill down to more details (departments -> courses)

Hi Jann,

Thanks for the suggestion and kind words!

We're storing the information in a database (or a flat file, I can't remember) and using the Visualization API to display the information, rather than embedding a graph from a spreadsheet. However, it looks like most of the functionality has now been provided with the new SVG/VML motion chart! (
https://developers.google.com/chart/interactive/docs/gallery/bubblechart
So I may be able to use that in the future.

Thanks,

Alex
