We have been saying for a long time that Flyovers are no solution to traffic problems. They not only fail to reduce congestion but in fact help to increase it. This is based on empirical evidence from many cities around the world that have now begun to demolish elevated roads/flyovers and opt for sustainable solutions like better public transport and NMT (cycling and walking).
However our cities including Pune are continuing to follow the outdated path of building flyovers with predictable results - of worsening congestion, pollution and destroying the city's natural and built environment.
It is time to wake up and push policies to discoure the use of personal vehicles and radically improve Public Transport (and Non Motorised Transport - Walking and Cycling).
