I wanted to know more about electronic ticketing machines used by
Swargate depot (PMPML). I am told that Vansh infotech (Bangalore
based) has deployed the hardware and software at Swargate depot.
However I could not find Vansh infotech website.

What I know about e-ticketing machines. from discussions with Swargate
depot manager :
+ Machines allow conductors to issue a paper-ticket, based on stages.
+ Conductors must change the stage as bus moves.

Following types of information is stored in the machine.
+ For a given route, for each trip (UP or DOWN), total number of
passengers and total revenue.
+ For a given route, for each trip (UP or DOWN), for each stage,
number of passengers who were ticketed in that stage. This gives
information about passengers entered at each stage i.e passenger
demand for that route in that area.

I am told that these machines can be plugged directly into the PC and
all above data/information can be transferred. I did not get chance to
see this. Once data is copied to a PC, different kind of reports
(including route wise/trip wise EPK reports) can be easily generated.

Now I wanted to know :

+ If we can write a software program to copy/fetch data from the
machine and pump it into the database. Therefore I need more
information about this machines and data format etc.
+ How many and which hardware companies in India can provide such machines?
+ Who else (transportation agencies) in India have e-ticketing system
and how they benefit from it?

Thanks

Hi Vijay,

Reg Your queries:

< If we can write a software program to copy/fetch data from the

Yes, very much. We can write the s/w to download the information regarding the route, fare etc etc. before the trip and upload the ticket sales and other data after the trip. The host s/w (PC or server at the depot) can be designed suitably to do this and use a database and then generate desired reports for each day or MIS over a period. Data format etc is specific to each ETM (Electronic Ticketing machine) and that can be obtained only from the vendor of that ETM. No standardization about this.

<How many and which hardware companies in India can provide such machines?>
Two I know: (1) MicroFx Bangalore, Not sure if they have website. (2) Powercraft electronics. Their website url for ETM is: http://www.balajihandheld.com/powercraft_elec/balaji_etim.php
There must be several more.

<Who else (transportation agencies) in India have e-ticketing system

Well, several state bus corporations have implemented the ETIM based operation, which include Karnataka, Kerala, Tamilnadu and even UP and HP. MSRTC is currently in the process of implementing this.
Nenefits are obvious as you have yourself narrated.

Rajendra

Thanks Rajendra for great information.

I called PowerCraft (Balaji Handheld) representatives in Mumbai and
later in Pune. They have invited me to their swargate office.

They told me that a company Trimax has already developed a software
that integrates with ticketing machine. Details of the software are
not known, but it proves that it is EASY to create a software
application that can fetch useful data from ticketing machines.

I googled for Trimax :
http://www.trimax.in/index.asp?mm=msrtc&msrt=msrtc3

I will have exact details after meeting with the representatives.

Thanks
