Dear all
This is a call for 6 contributed talks in a Workshop in the History of Logic, which will be held at the "Federico II" University of Naples on 22-23 October 2025.
The Workshop is meant as the official opening of the second cycle (2025-2026) of the
Naples Seminar Series in the History of Logic (
website of the Seminar Series here), whose inaugural lectures will coincide with two invited talks in the Workshop itself. Besides these, we aim at having 6 additional contributed talks. The contributed talks can concern
any topic and period in the history of logic, e.g.:
- ancient, medieval and modern (XV-XIX century) logic;
- any field and tradition in standard contemporary formal/mathematical and philosophical logic (say, algebraic logic, proof-theory, model-theory, any approach to the foundations of mathematics, philosophical debates at the crossroads of logic and philosophy of language, or of logic and metaphysics/ontology, and so on);
- pre-Fregean and pre-Hilbertian traditions, with a focus on traditional philosophical logic;
- history of logic as a history of scientific practices (logical notations, diagrammatic representations, and so on).
The deadline for submitting the abstract is 15 July 2025. The results will be communicated by 1 September 2025.
The abstract must be
written in English, must be no longer than
2.000 characters (including spaces, excluding references) and must be
anonymous. It should be accompanied by a
separate document indicating author's (or authors')
name(s), affiliation(s), and email address(es). The abstract and the separate document should be sent at the following e-mail address:
historyofl...@gmail.com.
A preliminary round-table on the transdisciplinary and didactical aspects of logic, with logicians working at the "Federico II" University of Naples, will be held (in Italian) the day before the start of the Workshop, i.e., on 21 October 2025. The participation in this preliminary meeting is open (and welcome) to participants in the Workshop.
For further details, and for registering for (in-person or remote) attendance, visit the Contacts & Registration web-page on the website of the Workshop.
Best regards,
Antonio Piccolomini d'Aragona
