Hello, I have just discovered this beautiful way to make photos. I own a dji phantom with a Gopro 3 Black, and I have some questions:

- Which are the best settings to take photos? Medium/Wide fov, light exposure auto?
- More photos you get, better is the final image or it doesn´t matter?
- Can you take photos of totally facing up and down and include in the 360 view?

Thanks!

That sounds like it will be very difficult to do from a multicopter with just one camera simply from the parallaxing. I do know of folk that bought multiple goPros and hooked up a rig to fly and take photos and even video and then stitch it together but the cost of carrying multiple goPros on in the air requires a multicopter with 8 props and those big guys run upwards of 12,000 US. I would be interested to hear if any more experienced people have managed to do this, however!

I set my Gopro 3 Black Edition to shoot in the 'simultaneous Video and Photo' mode. Set the video for 4/3 at 1440px and tell it to take a 12Mp still image every 5 seconds. I use FPV goggles to position the drone and once in position I give it some sharp movement to mark the starting point and then begin to rortate it slowly, making sure there is enough overlap between 'takes'. 6-8 shots are usually enough.  If you have a gimbal you can try to tilt it slightly up, do a whole round, tilt slightly down and do another, etc. It's perfectly ok to shoot straight down as well but I found it unnecessary. I do get some parallax errors but not too bad since everything is pretty far from the camera. For the sky, you can fake it in Photoshop, etc or just limit the view up. to see examples:  http://www.uricogan.com/home/index.html  or http://www.uricogan.com/field/.

The logo in your zenith suggests that your multicopter is a little bit bigger, but I'm very impressed with your results! I thought the GoPro only did burst shots and not single ones? How slowly do you rotate it to get each shot?

Hi,

You won't get so many paralax problems since everything is so far away. For the Zenith some people take the picture from the ground(when possible) but I haven't experienced with that yet.

Yes, bigger, but it's a really a standard DJI Phantom V2 that I transplanted into a DJI Flamewheel F550 hexacopter frame. Since I use FPV, when shooting a panorama, I rotate it by eye every 6-10 seconds or so. The GPS keeps the thing approximately in position. The GoPro can shoot in several simultaneous combinations of  video and stills.   RTFM  :-) Do not, I repeat, do NOT use the GoPro's own remote while flying the Phantom - it can interfere with its radio control.

Thanks Uricogan, What FOV do you use? Narrow, Medium or Wide? Thanks!

To get 12Mp on the GoPro 3, Black Edition you need to set the video at 1440p. RTFM!
