When you load an X5 image in PTGui 13.2, an equirectangular preview is created immediately, which can be improved by using “Align.”

Even after resetting the default, a X5 panorama is always displayed rotated by 180° as the starting viewing direction. Of course, you can then apply a corresponding template or shift the panorama by 180° and change it, but that is very tedious.
Is there a way to display the correct viewing direction, shifted by 180°, directly when loading an X5 image? Turning “Position images automatically using metadata from the camera's orientation sensor” on or off has no effect.

Hi Manuel,

PTGui can be changed of course. But it's a 360 degree camera, so you
cannot really point it in a particular direction. Why do you consider
the viewing direction to be wrong?

The center of the lenses delivers the best image quality. To get the best quality of the main subject, I adjust the camera accordingly.
When you look at the touch screen, that is also the logical recording direction and image center, as I understand it.

Furthermore the center direction as delivered by the insta360 Studio software and insp output is the lens opposite of the touchscreen - the same.

So there is noc possibility to change that behaviour in any settings or drefaults? Like exchanging the crop circles or similar by default? You have to change it in the PTGui app itself?

Hi Manuel,

I think you can create a template with the changed orientation. Then
after loading the image, do File - Apply Template - <template name>.

Of course, I could also move it by hand or switch it by numerical input.
I had a tour with 200 location photos, fast preview. Insta studio result was to bad (but correct orientated).. Its annoying to repeat always the same action 200x in Ptgui just because the software does something weird.
Normally: drop image to Ptgui, key short for align, few mouse movements for straight horizon, save - ready.
No fumbling around in any menues should be necessary.

Would be great if this was fixed in a update…

Hi Manuel,

So, for my understanding: the X5 produces an image containing two
fisheye images side by side. Currently PTGui places the first image in
the middle of the equirectangular output, and the second at the sides.

So the insta360 application does the opposite and puts the second image
in the middle?

Yes, the center (lens opposite to screen) is the right circle on the X5, the lens above the screen is left.

I assume this is also the case for the x2, x3 and x4? Could anyone
confirm this?

With the X5, insp and dng files are equal orientated.

I still have X3 photos. With the X3, insp and dng are different.
X3 dng: vertical image, center is lower circle
X3 insp: horizontal image, center is right circle

As X3 and X4 have the same sensor, this may be valid also for the X4.

This has been changed in PTGui 13.3, it now positions the second image
in the center.
