first solution: just let it stitch, how ever long it takes. do something else in the mean time (household chores, family stuff, sleeping etc)... ptgui will finish the stitching eventually.

second solution: restart your computer, launch ONLY ptgui (no other application!), set the ram usage to 2.5-3GB. set an internal drive for ptgui scratch/temp, since external drives (USB/FW) are notoriously slow. set the interpolator to bicubic or similar (avoid lanczos1024 etc), and start your render, and wait. ptgui will finish eventually.

third solution: see https://groups.google.com/d/msg/ptgui/5sv8C1BhbE4/bYf2tzF0Y00J but this is only if you are serious about your panoara work, and if it's worth the effort, otherwise go for 1/2 above.

Yes, let it run.  I have a Vista 32bit 3gb ram Pentium Dual CPU E2200 @2.2 Ghz.  I do have a scratch disk but at 5400 rpm.  A 300 image at 10mp per image takes about 16 minutes to load in and then another hour to align.  It took 4 hours to stich into a photoshop large blended pano but note that I was using nikon raw nef as the source and stiched the pano at 16 bit using the sync 256 interpolator.  With the 12mp of the D300 and double the files, I'd expect that you would be at a much longer time than my stitch but I don't know how your processor compares.

For me, if I want to speed things up, I use the jpg file the camera creates and use that to stitch at 8 bit using the standard interpolator.  On the larger stitches what I feel is helpful is to stitch a smaller preview version at maybe 2000 pixel height to confirm everything looks right before committing to the final large stitch.  You need to stitch the preview at a level that you can review the pano to determine is there are ghosts and such that need fixing.

I've also excluded the ptgui application and the source and destination directories from the antivirus scanning.  This showed up as a 2 minute save on that 16 minute load mentioned above cutting it down to 14 minutes.  Not a lot but everything helps.

Hi תמיר אורבאום,

"there is not enough memory to complete this project": this does not
seem to be a PTGui error message. Can you show a screenshot of the exact
error text?

The 300 image 10mp project I referenced above that results in stitching a 1.55 Gigapixel pano comes up with a required temp space of 37.5 Gb.  I would not be surprised if your project would require 100 Gb to stitch.  You would need this as available space on your hard drive.  You could put this on an external but you would be penalized with the lower speed interface.

Go to the project menu and select the last item - calculate required temporary disk space.  You'd want that as a minimum but really you want more to keep the machine stable.

You need to reduce the 'use at most ...% of RAM memory' setting, in
Options - Advanced.

Try first with a low value (10%), this should prevent the error. Then
increase the value until the error appears. The optimum value is
somewhere inbetween.

To stitch large panoramas fast you really need a 64 bit machine and at
least 8GB of RAM.
