Hi Mark,

If it's for your own personal use, the personal license would do.
Otherwise you need a company license. The floating license is convenient
if the server is short-lived (when renting servers on demand). The
per-computer license requires you to manually deactivate the computer
when it is replaced.

Can I do command line "headless" with personal? I thought that required pro. Ideally I would use this with Lambda functions on AWS but if it needs a server to live on, I would just keep an ec2 instance running.

It sounds like the floating license is the way to go though.

You would probably need the Pro version for your application, assuming
you want it to align images, not only stitch them.

All licenses (personal and a company) are available as a Pro and a
standard (non pro) variant.

one more question. Does it require GPU? If I want to run this on a normal ec2 instance, can I?

Thanks!

Yes you can run it in a regular server, PTGui doesn't require a GPU.

Hi,

I have a related question, just for clarification of my understanding...

I have PC with not-enough RAM for stitch some pano's. So, I was thinking
about buy some "cloud" resources - VPS with with 384GB RAM is for ~2$
per hour. But this usually means build server (install dependencies
etc...), upload prepared pano project, stitch, download result and
destroy all VPS resources.

This means changes of PC consuming the license.

I don't want to create panos for comercial use, so floating license does
not makes sense - the yearly price is really high for my purpose.

Do you have some recommendations in this situation?

Thank you, Michal Heppler

Hi Michal,

It's possible, you just need to deactivate the computer when stitching
is finished. Otherwise the license will stick to that computer.

Deactivating can be done from the user interface only. You can start a
vnc server:

vncserver :1 -geometry 1920x1080 -depth 24

Then:
export DISPLAY=:1
PTGui

From your computer do SSH tunneling for the VNC port:
ssh -L 5901:localhost:5901 user@remote_host

Then connect your VNC viewer to localhost:5901

This is the recommended way. If you shut down the server beofre
deactivation, you can request deactivation from your account here:
https://www.ptgui.com/account
but this may take a couple of hours.

Kind regards,

Joost Nieuwenhuijse

Hi Joost,

I can see that the Linux version is not just a prison ball on a leg and
I appreciate it!

But, as I am the CLI guy, I have a tip for improvement... Option to
activate/deactivate license in headless mode ;)

But I think, If I will tune my laptop and workflow (more in second thread),
it will not be necessary...

Have a nice day, Michal Heppler
