I usually use one of the following possibilities:
- Artificial bracketing, works only if shot raw: If it's only one image
where the ghosting appears, I use the best exposed frame and create
artificial brackets by turning the exposure up or down in the raw
converter the same amount as the physical brackets I want to replace. If
you use raw images in PTGui directly, you can even replace the offending
images with the best exposed one on Source Images tab. Blown highlights
in the replacement image will cause strange grey highlights, so better
chose a darker image. However, too dark images will show increased
noise, but this is always a problem by bracket deghosting.
- Manual insertion: Create the panorama twice, once with bracketed
images, once only the frames where the questionable regions are
similarly exposed as in the bracketed panorama by disabling the unwanted
exposure steps images. Load both panoramas in a new project and mask red
the ghosted areas in the bracketed version. Then mask red the entire
single exposure version, but leave larger areas than the masked ones in
the other version unmasked. This will enable PTGui to adjust the
brightness and colors and create a seamless blend between the unghosted
parts and the bracketed panorama.
