I have been using PTgui to defish arena images of basketball games…about 5 to 10 per game.  I have a template for the lens and get great results.

While it is not onerous to do one at a time, I was wondering if there is a way to select a batch and automate the process.

If it is, PhD (Push Here Dummy) instructions would be appreciated….thx

Do you hav PTGui pro? If yes, you can use the batch stitcher to do
multiple images.

Go to Tools -> Batch Builder
Select "Detect Panoramas" to open the Detect Panorama Settings
Choose Method: "Multiple panoramas per folder..."
Choose your Source folder (where the images are).
If you have other files in that folder, set an Image file extension
Set "Images per panorama" to 1
Click "Detect Panoramas" to go back to Batch Builder
Your images should now be loaded, one per row.
Choose your template at "Use template"
Select "will not run 'Align Images'..."
Enable "Send the generated Batch List to the Batch Stitcher"
Click "Generate projects"

That should be it.

Erik, thanks for the detailed reply. I was actually looking for a way to start from LRc, using ‘Edit in PTgui’.  This is quite easy to start for one image.  Your steps vs LRc start both have ‘fiddly’ steps, not the least of which would be starting with a RAW vs preprocessed (in LRc) TIF and finding files in WIN explorer vs LRc filtering with lens metadata info, etc.

I assume you can export multiple files from lightroom (filtered,
according to your preferences) to a folder?

Then you can run the Batch Builder on that folder, as Erik explained.

Thank you Eric & Joost…..I finally got a new batch to process, tried your methods and it worked great.

Is there a way to save the setup to reuse?  Also, anyway to send the output to a subfolder of the input folder?

Thanks again….John

Hi John,

If you have a template then you can use the instructions Erik gave for
batch processing. See:
https://groups.google.com/d/msgid/ptgui/d2ac90a1-d71c-4edb-a1c2-cfe00cefb64f%40gmx.de

To save the output in a specific folder, modify your template as follows:

- File - Open Project - and select your template
- Go to Project Settings (if you don't see this tab, click Advanced first)
- Choose the desired output folder under File Naming - Panorama - Save In
- File - Save Project to save the updated template

This worked fine for quite a while.  Today, i have some problems.  The panoramas (TIFs) are not created...at least, not in the source directory.  Second, the 'batch list' keeps getting added to.  Even when I have checked delete batch list or even deleted from (Windows) user data 'Batch Lists'

Looking at the file names, you seem to be including the generated
panoramas when searching for source images to be converted. So you are
defishing images which are already defished.

Say you have image 2026-02-14_17-01-17_3.tif
This gets defished as 2026-02-14_17-01-17_3 Panorama.tif

When you run the Batch Builder's Detect Panorama again on this folder,
it now sees two tiff files. And you will end up with a
2026-02-14_17-01-17_3 Panorama Panorama.tif wich is double-defished.

You could modify your template so it saves the output somewhere else,
where the batch builder does not not look.

But the easiest solution is probably to keep track of which folders
you've defished and which not yet. Run the Batch Builder only in the
folders you've not yet processed, and make sure it's only run once.

Ahhh….so the ‘Batch Builder’ ALWAYS looks at ALL the images in the source folder?

I had been selecting a group of images, say 3 or 10, then ‘edit in PTgui’….when PTgui opens, just those images are shown, I then selected ‘Batch Builder’ and (wrongly) assumed it would work just those images as a batch.  Is there no way to do that?

I have a problem with creating a template with a ‘Panos’ folder or sub-folder.  It would work, for me, if the subfolder creation was “dynamic”, such as Lightroom Classic, where you can have an export function create a ‘Panos’ folder as a subfolder to the source folder.

Indeed. The batch builder will ignore the images you have openend in the
main PTGui window. It's a completely separate tool.

When you press Detect Panoramas, it will scan the selected folder for
images and create projects for each set.

In your template you can configure where the project files and the
panoramas will get saved. See Project Settings - File Naming. If you
configure this to save outside of your source tree, then the converted
images will be ignored by the batch builder.

But you might want to consider a workflow like this:
- from lightroom, save a batch of images to a temporary folder
- run the batch builder with your template on that folder
- import (copy) the converted images back to lightroom
- delete the temporary folder

Joost, in ‘file naming’, what does it mean by ‘(any relative path is interpreted from the source image folder)’?

First of all, if you don't know what a relative and absolute path is, see:
https://gemini.google.com/share/36224c99f90e

If you enter a relative path name (for example subfolder1/sufolder2/)
PTGui needs to convert this to an absolute path on your disk.

It simply means that PTGui will take the source image folder, and then
append the relative path.

So if your images are in C:\Images
and you tell PTGui to save the project in the folder 'projects', then
they will actually be saved in C:\Images\projects

Ok….what I figured.  So, if I have pix in C:Images/Tiffs and want them in C:Images/Tiffs/Panos, what do I enter and where?

It appears that the only way to enter anything in the ‘save in’ (either ‘Progect file’ or ‘Panorama’) is to select ‘Folder’.  When I do that, it appears to place it as subfolder to parent folder.

BTW….where do the Project files (.pts) go.  Are they erased.  I have looked for them while trying to figure out what was happening with build up of Batch Builder, but could not find them…either source disk or Win user folders.

Just to be clear…when I said parent folder, I meant root….that is, the result was C:\Panos, not C:\Images\Panos or C:\Images\Tiffs\Panos

You need to use .. to navigate to the parent folder.

Suppose you have the images in C:\Images\Tiffs
Generated project files go into C:\Images\Projects
And the panoramas go into C:\Images\Panos

Then you would enter:
Project file: Save in: Folder: ..\Projects
Panorama: Save in: Folder: ..\Panos

The project file location is relative to the image file location: so it
will go into C:\Images\Tiffs\..\Projects which equals C:\Images\Projects.

Similarly, the panorama file location is interpreted relative to the
project file location. So the panorama is saved into
C:\Images\Projects\..\Panos which equals C:\Images\Panos

The actual ‘image’ being worked on is a .tif in the Tiffs folder.  In your explanation, were you assuming it was there or in the ‘Images’ folder?

Sorry….reread your reply…you did assume in Tiffs.

What if I wanted the Panos to be put in ..Tiffs\Panos? (Thought, I could live with ..\Panos 😀)

Do I care where the project files are put?  As I asked earlier, are the .pts files deleted after used.  I cannot find them on disk.

Also, what if images are in C:\Images.  How can I get them into C:\Images\Panos?  Would ..\Panos put them in C:\ (or next level up above ‘Images’)

Single ‘.’ !!!   That is .\Panos
Message has been deleted

Indeed.

Just leave out the ..\ from the start. So:

C:\Images\Tiffs combined with ..\Projects gives c:\Images\Projects
C:\Images\Tiffs combined with Projects gives c:\Images\Tiffs\Projects

This is nothing particular to PTGui, it is how relative path names work
in Windows.

No, probably you don't care about the project files in this case. You
would care about them if you were setting up a large number of panoramas
with the intention of editing a few projects before final production.

Yes, actually these are equivalent:

.\Panos
Panos

In both cases, a subfolder Panos will be used in the originating folder.

Instead of a template, you could do File - Make Default. This will apply
the current settings to all new projects.

But you should be careful doing this, changing some defaults can lead to
weird issues.

I tried saving a project and it always seemed to initially select the 'templates' folder.

i tried your initial ..\project and ..\panos suggestion. the panos folder was created and panos was created in this folder; no projects folder created, when using save project, the templates folder was selected

I guess this means you're trying to save the template itself.

Try this:
File - New Project
Load one or more images
File - Apply Template
select the template you created
File - Save Project

PTGui will now suggest the configured template folder as the location
for the project file.

And iff you would use the Batch Builder with this template, it will save
the project in the configured folder.

Kind regards,
