I have a very specific workflowfor producing AVRs (Accurate Verified Representation). That involves matching rendered markers from a £D programme to a photo with these points marked on. This is largely taken care of by a script that sets up the cameras in 3D and places them and the markers according to the survey data. The final bit of the match is done in photoshop in order to account for an overscan and any shift use on the camera lens.

I'm wondering if PTGui can be utilised for this last part.

having a go I'm stumped by a couple of points:

  1. can ptgui somehow convert my render/survey point images to control points? They consist of a pure red dot on a black background. Align Images doesn't seem to work - I guess the algorithm isn't cut out for this kind of image? If I have to manually create control points it will not save me any time
  2. the non-square image (control points from the photo) needs to not be distorted or moved at all - I have set this as the 'Anchor image' in Optimizer, will this work?
  3. I need to output the tranforms to Photoshop - I know PTGui can export PSD but I also need the transformed layer as a smrt object with the transforms about. This is the part I'm most doubtful about - I don't think this is possible.
Any help appreciated as I don't want to spend too long going down this road if ultimately it's not going to work.

The example images are attached. 'Photo markup' is the one that needs to stay undistorted.

Hi Tom,

PTGui will not be able to place control points in the red dots
automatically.

The PTGui project file is json based and contains the coordinates of the
control points. Perhaps you can take an existing project file and modify
it to add the control points.

Re #2: Yes set the anchor image to the reference image. Or in advanced
mode, disable all optimizations for the reference image. You also must
make sure that the panoramic projection matches the projection of the
reference image. So if the reference image is rectilinear, 50 degrees
Hfov, the panorama should be the same projection.

3: no this is not possible. But you could use the Batch Builder/Batch
Stitcher in PTGui to warp a large number of images in exactly the same way.

Kind regards,
