I haven't purchased PTGui yet.

(see attached)

Left image is what comes stitched out of the drone. It fills in the sky.

Right image is the stitch done manually on Windows.

I have hundreds of 360 panoramas that need stitching. Can PTGui fill in the sky automatically during batch stitching of 360 panoramas?

Hi Victor,

The Pro version of PTGui has a similar Fill Holes function. It can be
enabled in the Panorama Editor, in the Blending side bar.

You can use it for batch stitching as well. Create the first panorama in
PTGui using Align Images and enable Fill Holes. Then do File -> Save As
Template.

For subsequent panoramas you can use Tools -> Batch Builder. Let it scan
your folders and tell it to use the template you just created.

You can try for yourself and see if it works for you, the trial version
is fully functional.

Kind regards,

PTGui automatically fills the sky - if individual sky images are
available - and if individual images have prominent points (clouds)

I personally find those uniformly filled in skies annoying. It's not
that much effort to land the drone, turn it upside down, shoot the sky
that way and stitch it together with the other images. PTGui handles
that very well.

" It's not that much effort to land the drone, turn it upside down, shoot the sky that way and stitch it together with the other images."

That sounds pretty tricky.  For my Mavic Pro I think that would need around 17 images (at various different tilts) -- assuming one wanted the same resolution for the sky as the rest of the sphere.

A simpler solution might be the Anafi drone: its gimbal will pivot -90° through +90° it it can take a full sphere "natively" in a single sequence.  It's why I bought PTGui, in fact, as the Anafi takes the shots in a rather weird order which the other stitchers I have can't handle automatically.

that is exactly why I bought the drone "ParrotAnafi" - there is no
problem with the sky now

...which obviously might be necessary only if there is anything more
detailed than clouds.

You even can shoot the sky from the ground with a different camera.
PTGui should handle this seamlessly, if the images contain the correct
EXIF data.

Or you can use a fake sky:

OK, thanks.  I mostly make panos in the mountains, so (unless one is near the top of one) they often get truncated/decapitated.  It's then hard to see how a ground-level upwards photo is going to help much, as the drone can be several hundred metres higher  [aside: that's legal so long as the drone is never more that 120m from the side of the mountain].

But yes, for 'empty skies' a single up-shot sounds better than a fill.

Except then it's not 'your' panorama....

Because of the wide angle of view of the lens, and the fact that you are capturing the top half of the sphere, you actually only need 4 frames, pointing up about 45°. Start facing north and yaw 90° after each frame. Finally, face North again, point the camera directly upwards and capture the final zenith frame. Here's an example of a P4P pano, unstitched as I pull all the frames into PTGUI. The blending will be good but you will have to mask out that light post.

Alternately, use a camera with an equivalent lens and shoot the sky while the drone is in the air. I also like to shoot the drone from below with a longer lens then insert that as a zenith frame.PTGUI Nadir Shots.jpg

I like to shoot the sky while the drone is in the air (using same MANUAL exposure settings as for the drone camera), which also allows me to insert my drone in the zenith like this.
