Howdy Brains Trust,

I'm just new to PTGui and trying the trial version to see how how feasible it would be to use it for stitching 360 images output by the Ricoh Theta Z1.

So far, i am getting very inconsistent results. many come out perfectly, but several, as per attached images, will either mutilate (as per image 1) or have large swathes of what appears to be transparency and really poor stitching (as per image 2). This is after generating control points, aligning and analyzing. Doesn't seem to be any way to fix this effectively, unless i am missing something obvious.

All these same images open in Adobe Lightroom and exhibit no issues. wondering if anyone has any ideas? thanks in advance.Screen Shot 2021-07-25 at 2.44.47 pm (2).pngScreen Shot 2021-07-25 at 2.50.43 pm (2).png

Can you please supply copies of the camera images for the two examples you show.  Also, see the PTGui FAQ item: https://www.ptgui.com/support.html#6_41

It's probably caused by a lack of control points. Ideally some control
points should be placed all around the overlap area of the two fisheye
images. Since the overlap area for two opposing fisheye images is just a
narrow ring, PTGui is often unable to find sufficient control points.

As John said it's easiest if you create a template for your camera, see
6.41:

Thanks for the sample images.  They stitched without any problems, following exactly the instructions in the FAQ:

I used images converted to tiff with Photoshop, but PTGui accepted the dng images ok.  My project file (for tiffs) is attached.  Load it into the same folder as the images and open with PTGui.

John and Joost,

many thanks for your support! i thought i had tried fixing with control points but as i said, still getting my head around things. The FAQ tip was the silver bullet, with the shift + drag solution seeming to have cracked it. now working well on those problem pics it seems.

Thanks heaps guys!
Alan.
