Somehow the preview no longer opens Quicktime for preview, but opens up in Photoshop. I changed my file association and that did not change the problem.

I went to Preferences > Viewer  and see "Equirectangular JPEG (panorama viewer): 'Use QuickTime player' " is check, and I added QuickTime Player for Rectilinear and Cylindrical and the preview is in QuickTime, but a QuickTime displays a flat image no a interactive QuickTime movie..

I saw this problem posted for windows users, they talked about registry changes. I am on a Mac, anyone know what is going on?

Hi Allan,

What happens when you double click on a .mov file in Finder? If this
doesn't open QuickTime either, please see:

Joost,

It is not a problem with file association. Mov files open in QuickTime (QT) and JPGs open in Photoshop.
When I set JPGs to open in QT, OT displays a flat not interactive image.

Looking in "Preferences > "Viewers" tab, I see "Equirectangular JPEG (pannorama viewer): [X] Use QuickTime player.

The file PTGUI preview generates, appears to be a JPG file. If I could find the temp JPEG file, it should open in what ever is my default viewer for JPEGs.
So, could it be that PTGUI is generating JPG previews now whereas it was creating MOV files before?

So I assumed PTGUI created a file and somehow it hands it to QuickTime to view as a QT VR, it may originally a MOV file and now it is a JPG?

Hi Allan,

If [X] Use QuickTime player is selected, PTGui does not generate a JPG
file but a MOV file instead. But only if the current panorama has an
equirectangular projection.

So my guess would be that you are not previewing an equirectangular
panorama. Is that right?

Unfortunately, when QT7 is the configured viewer, the abnormal behavior described by Allan can be observed on Mac OS X. I had actually noted on various Mac machines that the functions "previewing" (Preview tab) and "viewing" (Create panorama tab) were broken a long while back (possibly since introduction of QT7).
This has been a serious inconvenience that could not be easily worked around (especially when "pre-viewing" was solely required). However the hurdle was fully offset with the availability of the Detailed Viewer that is IMO more flexible than QT Player (for panorama making with PTGui).

The problem is indeed with QuickTime Player 7. What you need is QuickTime Player 6, which is still able to handle QTVR files correctly.

Joost, I never noticed that I was not using equirectangular, it was set to cylindrical.

That solved the problem, pardon my ignorance, wish there was more documentation.

So mush to figure out.

Thank you.

I am using QT7 including the browser plug-in. I have not experience problems on a quad core i7 macbook pro viewing VR files. The problem I had was a user problem (me). I did look at the detail viewer, as I get better with the software, I may need previewing less. It is unfortunate that Apple drop support in PT for VR.

Thanks all for your input.
