stitching in wrong place and missing some

PTGui version 7.3 is not stitching in the right place. It starts from
about a third of the way from the (r/h) end of the panorama, goes to
the (real, r/h) end, leaves a large blank transparent area, then takes
up from the beginning and goes to what it has decided is the end,
which of course is the end of the first two thirds from the left.
Dragging the part that has been wrongly positioned on the left (being
really the last right hand third) and joining it to where it should go
would be a simple solution except for the fact that positioning it so
reveals that there is a fading off on the matching two edges leaving
a thin slice of the image missing. I thought perhaps I was being
unattentive with the leveling of the camera, but I just read that even
if the camera is not completely level it should stitch anyhow. (Am I
making myself clear here?)

Hmmm, no. PTgui should join any two images that overlap and have control
points in common. If a slice is missing this indicates that there is no
overlap between the images or there are no control points between them
or both.

If the images do overlap but there are no control points, just add some
manually and optimize again. If not, you either forgot to shoot an image
or the panorama is not 360° (in which case you should center it) or you
didn't allow for the optimization of relevant parameters (Field of View
in this case).

To clarify those issues you should upload the PTS file (not the images
for the time being) to the files section. This would allow for having a
direct look.

Hi Steve,

I would say you can solve it by switching the panorama editor to 'Edit
Panorama' mode and dragging the entire panorama to the left or right.

But could you post a small screenshot and the project file (just the
.pts) to http://groups.google.com/group/ptgui/files for clarification?

Thanks Erik, and also thanks to Yoost too. I shall have a look at the
control points. I don't think there's any possibility that I missed a
shot. I'll get round to uploading a PTS file (I'm not sure what it is
but I'll find it) asap. Though my computer is slow and I didn't save
the project so I'll have to re-do it. Right now I can at least upload
a screen shot or a small jpg.- To follow.
Best
Steve

Steve, Your screenshots seem to indicate that there are one or two
images missing in each case. (They may be hiding behind the aligned
images). If you switch into Advanced mode (button on the Project
Assistant tab), then on the Create Panorama tab you will find the
Include Images table, where you can switch off and on individual
images in the Panorama Editor window. That should enable you to
locate the missing images.

Most likely there are control points missing between some images: go
to the Control Points tab and check for control points between images
0-1, 1-2, 2-3, ..., n-0. (Use the Prev & Next buttons to speed this
process). Make good any deficiencies by assigning some control points
by hand. Then repeat the Optimize process, making sure the lens fov
is optimized.

I finally discovered that when I shoot a featureless sky, I can
position those images accuratly enough in the Pano Editor so that
a stitch can be done. The images seem to magically pop into place
when I get them near where they should go. And I don't have to
put any control points on them. Kind of a nice feature Joost...
