I've recently started experimenting with the Brenizer Method, also known as Depth of Field Panoramas - http://blog.buiphotos.com/2009/07/the-brenizer-method-explained-with-directions/. I love the results, but stitching the photos can be a pain. PTGui doesn't seem to manage well when attempting to stitch out of focus photos.

Using this method, most of the photos in the panorama are far out of focus and PTGui (perhaps understandable) struggles to find features which it can link together across photos. I was wondering if there is a way to change the scale or tolerance for the automatic control point generator so that it will match large scale features - such as large round out of focus highlights - for linking images? It would sure beat putting them in by hand.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Hi Neil,

I'm sorry, there's nothing you can tune in PTGui to improve this. I'm
aware of the issue though, I hope to improve this in a next udpate.

Kind regards,

Joost, there used to be an option to adjust the control point generator
search window size in older versions. When did it go?

Neil, there might be a way though: If you feed PTGui small copies of the
images it might be able to find control points automatically. If you
then replace the small images by the original ones the control points
are scaled to the larger ones.

To do this, place the small images in a folder, stitch them and save the
project in the same folder. Quit PTGui, then overwrite the small images
with the originals (file type should be the same). Start PTGui again,
and eventually create additional points for the sharper images.
