I was stitching a panorama (23x5 RAW fotos, 6 GB data) which was fairly quickly and precisely done (as usual by PTGui)) and wanted to patch the sky. I get the error message "Cannot handle box sizes higher than 2^32". I patched several panoramas so far, i.e. the functionality is known to me so some extent and I like it. - I tried to zoom in to a smaller area but still get the error message. In addition, the panorama eiditor and the detail viewer gets in troubles and display large blue and white rectangles instead of the pano.
Any idea, what to do?

Hi Hans,

I will see if I can reproduce and fix this. It might have to do with the
file size, although I would expect PTGui to handle large images.

You can probably resolve the blue/white thing by going to Source Images
and removing the offending patch image.

Kind regards,

Hi Hans,

I tried but couldn't reproduce this. Could you make the offending jp2
file available for download? Or perhaps the entire project with the
patch image?

Thanks
Kind regards,

Hi Joost

thank you for investigating here. I reproduced the problem today and make available the individual photos and the project as well as a screen shot of how PTGui looked like on my screen today. - Yesterday, I was able to move forwared with the very same set of photos and could patch several spots as needed. It maybe has to do with the area covered within the detail viewer and the corresponding patch size which is creadted when clicking on the button "Patch erstellen" ("Create patch" or similar in English).

I am using a MacBookPro with an M2 processor and 24GB RAM and the GPU is activated.

The data is available for download here: Download  (12 GB data, ie. 115 photos, 1 project and 1 gigantic patch .jp2 file)  or Download
please wait till approx. 15:30 Zurich time as the upload to the server is still ongoing
(if it is not working correctly, please let me know)

Hi Hans,

I wasn't able to download your files (I didn't have permission), but
I've now reproduced the issue here. Sorry for the trouble.

It's indeed due to the size of the patch image (> 4GB). You can create
smaller sized patches by decreasing the jp2 quality setting (click on
the Gear icon in the Patch side bar). The default of 100% is necessary
in certain cases but it would be unnecessary high for other cases.

Kind regards,

Hi Joost

good to read that you could reproduce the issue. The download link expired yesterday; I kept the period short for security reasons and can make it available again, if necessary.
I will ensure that my patches will be smaller than 4 GB by selecting a smaller area. I started to use the jpg format because Adobe Bridge does not support keywords for jp2. II want tag the patches as such and need the keyword option.

May I suggest an improvement here? The patches are named "PTGui Patch 01.jp2" and 02, 03 etc. If patch another panorama (as a new project), those patches get the same names, possibly with an extra "(1)" at the end, but I haven't checked this in detail. Would it be possible to rename the patches within the source file view? Currently I need to duplicate the patches, rename the duplicates with a meaningful name (i.e. Project name + "patch" + sequence number) and then replace the patches with the duplicate files within PTGui).

And there is another thing to mention: the patches get the creation date 01.01.70 01:00 -> could you use the system timestamp at the time of creation of the patch?

Regards
Hans

I'll add this to the wish list. But you can choose the file name at the
time when the patch is created (use 'Choose Location' instead of 'Save
in project folder').

I don't think a timestamp is included but it would be useful, added to
the list.

thanks for the input. the "Choose location" is an alternative, at least for now. Being able to rename the pages on the "source images" page would still be a good option, I think.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
