Hey Guys,

I'm thinking about moving to a FX camera and buying a better Fisheye lens(I work currently with a Rokinon 8mm which works really good but I want to improve my work). I'm thinking about a Nikon D750 or D800. I have read goos things about the Nikon 10.5 f/2.8 fisheye and about both Sigma and Peleng Lenses. Which do you think is a very good option?

Thanks so much,

PS: Some of my pictures here(I'm always open to constructive feedback :)):

Have a nice day!

Hi Camilo,

There’s really no point buying an FX camera if you’re going to put a DX or non-fullframe lens on it. The best option for the D750/D800 is the Nikkor 16mm.

The Canon EF 8-15 mm f4L is IMO nowadays the best and most versatile fisheye lens for 360 photography.
Agreed, the Nikkor 16 mm is indeed probably the best option for Nikon FX camera users although the new Samyang 12 mm f2.8 ED AS NCS Fisheye lens could be a mighty contender. Did somebody test it (or a sibling aka Rokinon, etc.) for 360 panorama yet?

Thank you both.

Well I didn't know about Samyang products for FX. However, they say their fisheye lenses work on both DX and FX formats.
About Michael's question of Samyang's performance: I think it would work very good, I shoot 360 Panoramas with a similar version of it(Rokinon F3.5 8mm) and here you can see the results(Everything I have there was using that Rokinon lens):

Another question: If I buy the Nikkor 16mm FX Fisheye lens, will I be able to use it on my DX camera as well? I know the size of the pictures change but is there any other relevant difference?

You should also look in to the Sigma 15mm fisheye. Some very good reviews about this lens and cheaper than the Nikon 16mm.

I compared the 10.5mm and 16mm lenses on different Nikon cameras, and the 16mm came out on top for FX:

The main reasons to use a larger sensor are less noise and more dynamic
range. But you should know that with the same lens you might get a
smaller resulting resolution of your final panorama (at same FoV). For
sphericals you find some approximate values here:
