Hello,
I've just installed v 11.8 and am having much trouble stitching images together from my Roundshot.
Workflow is as follows
-Nikon D 810 with 24mm
-Shoot 32 bracketed images for a total of 96 shots
- Export papywizard xml file
-Load images into ptgui, import xml file
- ALIGN
- After alignment image looks skewed and off angle
- Go to CONTROL POINT ASSISTANT and see rows of shots that need
manual control points.
- Why do I need control points if I have an xml file? Shouldn't this place the images
in the proper position?
- Try to manually add points. This is extremely time consuming and the software
is not particularly clear on how to do it properly.
 - Add some then ALIGN again with the same results

This is VERY FRUSTRATING

I'm new to this software and might be missing a step somewhere.

ANY assistance greatly appreciated.

Hi Steve,

If the XML file is correct and the roundshot is super accurate then you
would not have to place control points, you could go straight to Create
Panorama. But usually there will be small misalignments due to
mechanical tolerances, inaccurate lens parameters, etc.

Problems can be caused by several things, like fast moving clouds or
parallax errors. Without seeing more I can only guess. Could you show
screenshots of the panorama editor after applying the XML file and after
running Align Images?

Kind regards,

Yes, there are moving clouds in most of my shots - why does this matter with xml file?? I can send a screenshot to a personal email address, can't post one here.
Are there some settings in preferences I should adjust? - this is very time consuming as I have hundreds of panos I need to get through and have
spent many hours trying to troubleshoot this.
The control points tab is somewhat confusing.
Thanks.

Steve, In PTGui Pro, exactly what happens in the Align Images function is defined on the Project Settings tab (available in Advanced mode) - under 'Align Images' behaviour. Of course, you can go straight to Create Panorama, without running Align Images and generate the panorama with the images in their current positions. If accurate lens distortion correction parameters have been loaded, the images should align reasonably well but their positions may need fine tuning with the aid of control points, as Joost says.

Again, if you trust your XML file and don't want to spend any time, just
stitch the panorama without going through Align Images. This is by far
the quickest route. But otherwise you'll probably have to work on every
single panorama having moving clouds.

Easiest solution is probably to avoid using control points in the entire
sky, and only use control points on the ground:

- load all your images
- apply XML file
- Don't run Align Images. Instead do Control Points - Generate Control
Points for all Overlapping Images.
- go to the Optimizer tab (press Advanced to show it)
- press Advanced in the Optimizer tab
- at 'Use Control Points of', deselect all images which contain only
sky. Images at the horizon (containing both sky and land) can be left
selected.
- now run the Optimizer

The land images will be aligned properly. The sky images will stay
roughly in place.

There's help available in every tab, press F1 (or Fn+F1) to read it.
What exactly do you find confusing in the control points tab?

Steve,

which Roundshot model and what image arrangement (in terms of rows) are you using?
I processed output from Roundshot Metric for a semi-spherical panorama with 31 images using D750 with a 20mm lens which works fine just with the Align function, without messing around with control points.
