Brian, What format of images are you loading into PTGui: JPEG, TIFF or
RAW? Shooting RAW and converting to TIFF for input to PTGui is
recommended.

Hi Brian,

PTGui uses dcraw for raw conversion; the current version of PTGui comes
bundles with an older version of dcraw which doesn't support the 5d Mk
III. If you're running Windows you can download a newer version of dcraw
and install it in c:\program files\ptgui\dcraw

But PTGui supports jpeg and TIFF files from any camera, so you can just
shoot jpeg or use a dedicated raw converter to convert your images to 16
bit TIFF format.

Hi Joost

Many thanks. I have downloaded a new version of DCRaw which does list the
Canon 5D MK III but now PTGui doesn't even align the images just produces
blue rectangles.

I have placed DCRaw exe in both PTGui/DCRaw folders (exactly as stated
below) eg Program Files and Program Files x86. Any ideas?

I find in incomprehensible that I purchase an app only to find that it is
months out of date - quick unacceptable. Am about to ask for a refund as I
might as well have continued with my useable but older version. I wanted
the newer version as I wish to continue with raw files and not have to
convert each image to TIFF or JPG first.

Sorry but using RAW for final stitching makes NO sense at all ! You are wasting all advantages which RAW would offer like CA correction and WB among many others. The option that PTGui offers the possibilities to stitch RAW is only there to enable a quick "preview" of usability of your files for the panorama without previous transformation.
The normal workflow is using a RAW converter and making the best result out of it. The best format would be 16bit TIFF generated from the RAW.
"OUT OF DATE" apps which are not able to open files from new cameras are more than common and fully understandable as apps have to be adapted to every new camera as the RAW formats are propitiatory to every manufacturer and camera.

I personally shoot always in RAW+JPG. In special cases where the stitchability is doubtful I use my JPGs for a quick test

Willy

Thank you for expressing your views but they don't assist in solving my
request. So back to the original issues - can you advise how I can get
PTGui to use the latest DCRaw as clearly adding the exe to the PTGui
folder/DCRaw doesn't work. Brian

I would prefer to remove the ability to stitch RAW files in PTGUI in order to avoid unnecessary support questions and to avoid to educate about the usage and advantages of the RAW format every other day...

Joost really likes it, but not many of the main supporters here in the group do. I have given up answering this specific question, since I was from the very beginning against the RAW feature in ptgui (it's just a can of worms not worth opening), and since joost likes it the most, he is also the best person to provide support for it

Where did you get the DCRaw file from?
Do you have the dynamic link library in the same folder as the exe.?
Have you got the correct 32 or 64 bit version?
Why would you want to use Raw files without any control?

Matthew good questions. I havent replaced any dll files as there isn't any in the ptgui/dcraw folder just dcraw.exe plus zip folder. the dcraw.exe seems to be a new version withmulti threading mentioned on the web site so this may mean ptgui needs to be tweaked. Can you explain how I can replace the dcraw.exe along with other supporting files? Brian

Hi
Where did you get the DCRaw file from?
DCRaw is produced in C and various people compile it into an exe file.
Some have a front end, some are command line, some need a dynamic link
library.
