Hi everyone,

I recently bought a PTGui license and I'm currently adapting to the new workflow. First impression: the render speed is absolutely insane! Especially when it's stitching on the GPU, it's blazing fast.

However, as I'm getting used to it, I have a few questions and some feedback (in case any devs are lurking here):

  • Auto Bracketing: Is there a way or a setting to make it automatically group bracketed images when I drag and drop them? It gets a bit tedious having to constantly press Shift + Alt + H or manually confirm. If anyone knows a workaround, please share!

  • Vertical Line Tool (like Kolor): I honestly really miss the simple, visual way of drawing vertical lines in Kolor Autopano Giga. I know we can do it in PTGui using Control Points (clicking the top and bottom of a pillar on two separate panes), but the UI just isn't as intuitive for this specific task. Would love to see a more user-friendly vertical line tool in future updates.

  • Default Output Folder: A small but crucial request for workflow efficiency. Please add an option to set a permanent default output folder! It would save so much time not having to browse for the directory path from scratch for every single project.

A quick tip on blending: For those wondering about PTGui's built-in Tone Mapping and Exposure Fusion, they are actually pretty decent and safe for avoiding stitching artifacts. But, if you want a truly punchy, dramatic result with popping textures, my advice is to just export the 3 LDR blend planes and do the final tone mapping in Photomatix. Their micro-contrast engine is simply unmatched!

If anyone has a solution for the auto-bracketing or default folder issues, let me know. Thanks!

See Project Settings tab under HDR defaults. Note that bracketed images
are only detected if the exposure follows a repeating pattern. That is:
if you shot bracketed in auto exposure mode, it won't work.

I never used Autopano, but I like the Control Point method for its
precision. A line would have to be warped according to the lens
distortion, which might not be determined yet when I set control points.
That line would then have to be fitted to an edge that is not bent in
the same way.

Did you try setting "Panorama: save in Folder" (and set a Folder) on
Project Settings tab under File naming?

You can make all the settings from the Project Settings tab permanent,
if you select Make Default from the File menu. But remember you did
that. There are lots of inquiries about strange settings from people who
forgot that.

Personally, I prefer SNS-HDR because of its natural-looking results.
Dramatic effects are more typical of the past decade ;-)

Hi,

Thanks for purchasing! If your panoramas are similar (in terms of
shooting sequence), consider creating a template. The template can store
the bracketing settings, output folder and more.

In your template, in Project Settings - Template Behavior - Link Images
in the target project: select 'same as in this template'.

And I agree, levelling in PTGui can be more straightforward. Improving
this is on the wish list.

Kind regards,
