I want to be able to play my panos through ptgui viewer on an Android
device from local storage like the SD card using html5. My HTC desire
with Android 2.2 is too slow and 256mb RAM is no longer enough. Also
it was a hassle to get around the flash player security to allow
loading of local files. I had to root my phone and insert a file
listing trusted folder locations into my internal phone root
directory.

I want to replace it with a new Android phone or tablet but I want to
be able to see my panos from local storage using html5 to get around
flash player security.

Does anyone have recommendations?

Will Android 4.0 or the new 4.1 support html5 with ptgui viewer?

Will flash player conflict with html5 when trying to load the pano
when flash player is still set to preferred in the pano html? I would
leave flash as preferred because older Android phones would show error
messages if html5 is set to preferred.

Not sure why you had trouble with Flash on Desire. I have a Desire Z and I have never had any trouble on Android 2.2 - 2.3 using local storage from the SD card.
It never asked for the permission I am used to from my Mac.

But the small Desire is as you say to slow. 4.0 supports webGL which already is available with Pano2VR and also soon with KRPano.

Hello Hans,
are you loading local flash panos that are fully embedded?
my problem occurs because ptgui viewer loads externally referenced
tiles, which I believe Is not allowed from local files unless
permission is given. on a computer its easy to change the settings,
but on an android I would need to add a txt file Into the root
ditrctory.

Yes the files are locally on the SD card. It maybe that the problem is that PTGui references them in the html file, not in an XML like KRpano.

Hello Tomash,

I'm the author of a new app ( PPV360HD) available on all Android devices (from 2.0, tablet or smartphone) that allows to see pano images up to 2.27GPixel from local storage, starting from the original jpeg image.

It's a very fast app, actually is online the version 1.0.3, with some major problems that I'm been resolving in the next few days.

there is also a limited demo version for evaluate purpose, to try first before buy, with a full hi-res public gallery (with images up to 500MPixel).

On my asus Prime and Galaxy S-II I can use smooth scroll and pinch zoom. I've tested the app on a old G1 (HTC-DESIRE), with success.

The app can be also executed on old android devices with a limited ammount of memory (and if you have some troubles, there is an option to use less memory).

Keep a try and let me know.

Hi Andrea,
I will give it a try later tomorrow.
I notice in your Google Play description, it says "must have SD card".  Does this mean tablets like the Google Nexus 7 or Amazon Kindle Fire does not work with the APP since these tablets don't have SD card slots?
Thanks

Hi thomash!

PPV360HD requires to access the /sdcard folder. So, on many devices with an INTERNAL storage, this is the case.
I'm working on a major new release, so I will appreciate any advice from experienced users.

Andrea.
