I have a windows 10 PC with a GTX 1080. 4790k with 32gb of ram. Stitching from an SSD.

I just converted the system from a hackintosh back to Windows and I never has the problem with OSX.

This is my work machine. It runs without any issues.

I have has these kinds of errors constantly with several driver versions. I just updated to the latest Nvidia drivers a few days ago.

Just updated to 10.7 and I still have this issue.

I'm stitching rather large panos from the Fuji GFX 50S.

I have attached a screen shot. Lots of assertion failed errors as well.

I have stopped the batch stitcher and PTGUI is totally frozen now. I had to force quit.

Hi Christopher,

First of all, the problem can be worked around by disabling GPU
acceleration in PTGui (see Options - Advanced).

With NVidia cards, CL_OUT_OF_RESOURCES is usually caused by a crashing
display driver. The crash could be caused by PTGui but it can also be
caused by other misbehaving applications, or by hardware problems
(overheating GPU etc).

Could you check the event log? Right click on the Start menu, choose
Computer Management, and navigate to:
System Tools - Event Viewer - Windows Logs - System

Do you see any entries 'Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and
has successfully recovered'? This would mean the display driver has
indeed crashed.

Are you running any other applications that might be using OpenCL? Could
you try quitting those before running PTGui? I've heard reports of the
latest Lightroom (with GPU acceleration) triggering this problem.

Kind regards,

Joost Nieuwenhuijse

After digging some more: if the CL_OUT_OF_RESOURCES happens in
combination with the 'Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and
has successfully recovered' in Windows' error log (it probably is, see
below), this would caused by Windows killing the display driver after it
has been unresponsive for two seconds. This is called 'Timeout Detection
and Recovery (TDR)'. So the GPU could just be busy.

If you're not afraid of changing something in the Windows Registry,
increasing the timeout before this happens is worth a try:

https://docs.substance3d.com/spdoc/gpu-drivers-crash-with-long-computations-128745489.html

Why this would happen is still unknown to me; I don't think PTGui is
misbehaving and the issue could be caused by other running applications
or driver issues.

I haven't been able to consistently reproduce the problem myself; all
feedback is appreciated.

Having to force quit PTGui when this happens is a bug, it should instead
abort the stitching with an error message. This will be fixed.

Kind regards,

Joost Nieuwenhuijse

 Thanks for the reply Joost,

I had some hard reset crash issues with this 1080 crashing a while ago. I reseated the card and I have not had any issues.

Looking in system errors I do have a nvlddmkm stopped responding error when this happened.

I am going to completely upgrade my system when the AMD 3950x is released next month. Planning on upgrading my CPU as well.

No stitching planned for a few weeks and no time to test the registry edit due to other photography projects.

I will try that out if I haven't upgraded by then.

Thanks again for your help Joost.

Hi Joost,

I now have a completely new system.

AMD 3700X (waiting for the 3950X if AMD ever release it)
64GB 3600mhz Trident Neo ram running XMP and infinity fabric at 1800mhz.
Gigabyte x570 Master Mobo
1TB Aorus 4.0 work SSD
1TB Samsung 970 SSD System drive
Gigabyte RTX 2080

This system eats everything.

Except for PTGUi: openCL error: cl out of resrouces -5 in function clflush

PTGui seems to stitch significantly faster.

I will post here again if I have any more issues.

Ugh... just had my first ever blue screen on this system while generating output panoramas with the batch stitcher.

I watch youtube while I work. The video and system froze while audio kept playing. Then blue screen.

DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION

Just updated Nvidia drivers of the week.

It happened on the end of the stitching I need to do today.

Will report back here if it happens again... after the driver update.

Nope...

Had to edit the stitching on one pano and when I went to build...

Within seconds I have this new error: OpenCL Error: CL_UNKNOWN_ERROR (-9999) in function clFlush.

Nothing else running, just PTGui.

(I would really appreciate the option to copy the text from the error window... writing this out to show you the error should be unnesecary.)

All windows and nvidia driveres are up to date, I have performed the registry edit and I am using 11.8 which is the latest version.

What can I do?

Hi Stuart,

I'm sorry to say but I don't have a solution. I have tried but haven't
been able to reproduce this myself (using the same GTX 1070). It seems
to be caused by the graphics driver crashing and restarting. After the
driver has restarted, PTGui receives an error from the driver as soon as
it continues with the next OpenCL function. It's limited to nvidia GPUs
on Windows.

Could you check the Windows Event Viewer for any GPU or nvidia related
error messages?

And be sure to have the latest nvidia driver installed.

Another user reported that the problem could be triggered by running
youtube in a browser while PTGui is stitching panoramas. I haven't been
able to reproduce this, but you might try closing all other applications
while PTGui is running.

And of course disabling GPU acceleration will work around the problem,
but PTGui will run slower.

Kind regards,

It's probably a symptom of the same problem. Once the GPU driver has
restarted, PTGui's opencl context is no longer valid and subsequent
commands will fail.

Could you check Windows Event Viewer for any messages? Type 'Event
Viewer' in the start menu.

You might see some in
Event Viewer -> Windows Logs -> System

Hi, Joost!

I got same problems for some time!

During creating final panorama:
****OpenCL error: CL_INVALID_COMMAND_QUEUE (-36) in function clFinish

and in Events: (sorry, russian description but very clear pointer to nvidia)

*Не удается найти описание для идентификатора события 13 из источника nvlddmkm. Вызывающий данное событие компонент не установлен на этом локальном компьютере или поврежден. *Установите или восстановите компонент на локальном компьютере.

Also,  few times Ptgui failed and closed at the moment, when on new panorama I first time  trying to open Panorama editor. At this moment I saw editor window with white empty contents for one second - and crash.

Win10, RTX2070, PTGUI 11.21

12beta also crashed few time, but I don't have time to check it more..
All this shit sart to happened after I install 12beta side by side  and update Nvidia driver to latest studio 442.19

Don't know reason, but before it was OK. ((

I tryed re-nstall driver - nothing changed.

Googling for 'nvlddmkm graphics exception' will show that you are not
alone. I haven't seen a solution, some people are suggesting it is a
hardware issue.

I can't completely rule out the possibility that it's caused by a bug in
PTGui. But I haven't been able to reproduce the problem myself and the
problem seems to be limited to certain nvidia cards.

Were you running any other applications at the same time? Playing videos
in Firefox is reported to trigger the issue.

Joost,

I have clean DELL AlienwareR8 WS, only for panorama processing. No this kind of errors before - never!

Lightroom, Chrome, PS 2019, Ptgui. No firefox, no any big backgroung apps running.

On V12 I have stable crash

1. Open PTgui main window
2. Open Recent project
3. Open Panorama editor window
4. Window opens with white screen. Crash PTGUI after 1 sec

IF! If I open Panorama Editor window BEFORE opening project - no errors. So, I think problem with initialization and presenting data on screen.

Also, I saw few time on Panorama Editor that image stop refreshing and stuck.  Only image's marks moving aroung, but not panorama. And both errors from messages  above.

Will try downgrade Nvidia drivers.

I'll see if I can reproduce this anyway. Does it only happen in the
PTGui 12 beta or also in PTGui 11?

Still it's unrelated to the problem you originally reported. In your
original report the GPU driver crashed. In this case PTGui crashed. I
think you will not see any error messages in Event Viewer in this case?
