Strange luminance problems in many transition regions using v12.26

Hi,

I made a pano with my DJI mini3 from 35 photos. I made it in DJI sphere pano mode, so we can compare DJI vs PTGUI results. The onlý difference, in PTGUI I selected the nicer Mercator projection. In DJI pano I see almost no transitions! However, in PTGUI I experimented a lot (e.g. using manual exposure correction, using vignietting compensation, using optimized cutting 1/1 & 1/64 and other values, etc., but I always get least some strange dark points or strange too bright regions.

I had this in the past also, e.g. with panos on a big lake where we need a homogenous picture because any artificial thing like a darker dot would be really annoying.

This doesn't look good, it shouldn't happen.

There was another report of a similar issue this week, I'm suspecting a
buggy GPU driver update was released.

Could you try disabling GPU acceleration (in Options - Advanced)? Does
this fix the issue?

Could you also send me the output of Help - System Information?

Also, when you render the panorama multiple times, is the spot always in
the same place?

OpenCL is not used.

I also run GPU accel off, and it looks BETTER.

Will run some more tests, because as said there are also other panos where I got strange areas.

Now I also tried different settings for my ealier lake pano, and here the results are even more clear, because water is hard to render well:

Bad: GPU accel on (with Find optimum cutting edges and slider at 1)

A bit better: GPU accel off again with Find optimum cutting edges and slider at 1 

Really good: GPU accel off again and checkbox Off for Find optimum cutting edges !!

Very slow for biiig panos: Find optimum cutting edges and slider at 1/64 (and also not good with GPU accel on)

One problem with checkbox Off for Find optimum cutting edges is that sometimes it is not the best setting, like it puts the overlaps at fix places resulting in two issues:

1. these areas looking like a Raute (rhombus) might be e.g. brighter

2. You tend to create  a pattern which is easy to detect as human as something artificial that can never happen in real nature

Maybe it makes sense to turn of GPU accel only for display and not for rendering, or only for huge panos (with giving a warning on these artefacts)?

Hi Stephan,

Different optimum seam settings will give different results, and you may
need to experiment to see what works best for your specific panorama.

But disabling or enabling GPU acceleration should cause absolutely no
difference. If that is the case, then I would like to investigate.

If so, could you make your project available for download and also
include two rendered panoramas, with GPU disabled and GPU enabled (and
nothing else changed)?
