Hello all,

I am sporting an Insta360 One R 360 camera, shooting 9x HDR images at 1 stop difference. Files are native Insta360 .insp

PT GUI does not natively support.

1) I havent seen simple step by step guide to create an HDR image  out of the 9 shots. Is there a tutorial for the insta360?

2) Would love a template too if someone has made one.

Thank you so much!

Hi Rafael,

The .insp images actually are jpg files. If you change the file names to
xxx.jpg or xxx.insp.jpg, PTGui will read them.

For HDR panoramas you can basically just drop the .insp.jpg files onto
PTGui Pro and run Align Images. You may need to add a few control points
manually because the images overlap only in a small ring.

When you see a good result, do File - Save As Template.

Kind regards,

Hi again

I am getting a strange result. The control points look good. But the resulting HDR looks burnt

Here are the source images from the Insta360 OneR:

I managed to get what seems like an HDR out of Insta360 Studio

This is what I am getting out of PT GUi HDR panorama using the Project Assistant:

Am i doing something wrong? I do realise the Insta360 is not a 32bit exr, so wondering what I am doing wrong

thanks

Raf

Rafael, You need to link the images on the Source Images tab.  Just select them all and right click to select the option to link images.  No control points needed as the images are already aligned.  However, I also levelled the panorama with vertical line control points placed on a few vertical features like edges of walls.  Then run Edit->Level Panorama in the Panorama Editor.  For levelling, see http://www.johnhpanos.com/levtut.htm .  My project file is attached.  Just copy into the same folder as the images and open it with PTGui.

Hi John

Thanks. That makes sense. I tried to apply those vertical points myself from a new project and optimise does a nice job levelling the image.

However, though the image is level, for some reason it has flipped upside down. I can rotate the source images back to normal, but the Panorama Editor is still upside down.

Not sure what i did wrong, but certainly seems to be the right direction.

One thing i noticed too. I tried to click on “Straighten Panorama” (thought that’s what you were referring to by “Level Panorama” but i get this message.

Instead i clicked Optimise in the Projects menu, and it levelled.

I am sorry about the back and forth.

Thanks

raf

You can use the rotate buttons on the Project Assistant to rotate the (whole) panorama into the correct orientation, or you can drag the image in the Panorama Editor window (left button) and rotate (right button) with the mouse.  Hours of fun!

No - I was referring to Level Panorama.  I assume that both options are available.  (I am using a Windows system, but Mac ought to give the same options).  Straighten attempts to equalise image pitch and roll parameters of a multi-image  panorama, but in this case with linked images, you only effectively have 1 image and it needs to be levelled, not straightened.  You can also level it manually by dragging/rotating, and to help with this you can introduce a grid onto the Panorama Editor window by dragging the tiny triangle at the bottom centre of the frame to the right.

Hey John,

I just realised Photoshop does a merge to HDR 32bit, and i am already paying for it.
I just needed something to make exr’s for cg, so this will be enough for me.

Thanks for your help. Who knows, though, i might come back for something more complex in the future

thank you for your help

John
