Here is my use case:
- I have a wide angle photo (A)
- I use PTGui to combine the details from additional telephoto shots (B, C, D) into photo A.
- The optimizer applies lens corrections to all shots for a nice blending.
- Now how can I export the result within the exact frame as the original photo A?

In other words, I want to use photo A as the target projection in a way that if I load photo A and the blended panorama in layers in photoshop, they will both align perfectly.

How can I do this?

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

This should work:

- Load all your images in a new PTGui project
- Switch to Advanced mode
- Go to the Lens Settings tab and verify that PTGui has created separate
lens profiles for image A and for image BCD. Make sure that the lens
correction pararmeters of image A are set to zero
- Go to the optimizer tab and click on Advanced
- Ensure that the parameters of image A are not optimized, and the
parameters of image BCD are optimized
- Ensure that the lens parameters of image A's lens profile are not
optimized. The lens parameters of the other images should be optimized
- Do Control Points -> Generate Control Points. If necessary add control
points manually.
- Optimize
- In the Create Panorama tab, output individual layers, don't output the
blended panorama

Kind regards,

Jeff, actually you can output a blended panorama, if you first disable
image A (f.e. on Create Panorama tab). And before you output you can
drag yellow crop lines from the edges of panorama editor to crop the
resulting panorama to the size of image A.

Thank you both for help.

It seems to work, but with some remarks:
- I need to generate the control points first, and then I need to reset the Image Parameters of photo A (Yaw=0, Pitch=0, Roll=0).
- Then, when I Run Optimizer, there is often a warning, but if I 'Initialize and Optimize', it usually works.
- I need to reset the Projection to Rectilinear.
- I didn't want to guess the final frame, so I disabled all photos except A, and I pressed the Fit Panorama button.  But it did not work, the field of view was still expanded for excluded photos.  So I had to manually move all photos BCD completely within frame A, and then Fit Panorama would work.  Then I ran the optimizer to replace photos BCD properly, without loosing my projection.

However for fisheye lens, I'm not sure if it will work.
- It seems like I need to use a Fisheye factor of 0 for the frame to be rectangular.
- And when I use a fisheye projection, Fit Panorama is not available.
- I don't know if the other photos BCD will be able to match the uncorrected photo A.

Further tests to do...

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I think you may have run Align Images (or Initialize and Optimize). You
shouldn't use that for this particular workflow, as it will override
your optimizer settings.

Generating control points (from the menu bar) will do just that; it will
not modify yaw/pitch/roll. If you run the optimizer, it will follow the
optimizer settings; if you disable optimization of yaw/pitch/roll, they
will stay at 0.

Don't do this, press No. Initialize and Optimize will override your
optimizer settings.

It should work with fisheye lenses just fine. Fit Panorama may not be
available, but you can use the sliders at the bottom to adjust the field
of view visually.

Just make sure that the lens settings match the actual lens parameters
for all images.

Hello

This is the first time I'm using this method to process three panoramic images taken from the same location and with the same camera settings, but with different lighting modes.
But I need help understanding the steps you previously sent.

Thanks
Amir
