Every time I stitch a new 360 with PTGui the response curve is totally off. It's inky and dark and just way off.

I have over 10 things in my PTGui workflow and one of them is to reset the response curve. Every time I need to reset the response curve. It's an irritation.

Is there a way to fix this or completely disable it?

Shooting with a GFX 50s and I'm using the latest version of PTGui.

I've been using PTGui for 10 years now I believe. I don't remember when this started but it's an irritation and I would love to find out how to fix it. I think it might have been something in the new version or something with the GFX 50S but I've just been resetting the response curve as part of my workflow.

I would really appreciate some help. It's an irritating part of my workflow now and I'd love to solve it! Thanks for any help!

Christopher,  Try this: With the preferred response curve showing on the Exposure/HDR tab, select Settings (under Auto exposure and colour adjustment) and set the Camera response curve  option to "Keep current".  Then use File->Make Default to make these settings automatically for all future runs.

Or this:

File -> New Project
Project Settings -> Uncheck 'perform automatic exposure and color
adjustment'
File -> Make Default

It's probably caused by the way you do your raw conversion. If you feed
PTGui tone mapped images, or images with shadow/highlight correction
applied, it can no longer reliably figure out the actual luminance of
each pixel. If you would like me to investigate further, please make a
set of images available for download.

Thanks for the response John, I have tried that but it does it automatically again on align in a new project even if this is set default there.

This works:

File -> New Project
Project Settings -> Uncheck 'perform automatic exposure and color
adjustment'
File -> Make Default

THANK YOU JOOST!!!!

I think that's a bug, I'll look into this.

Want to add my vote to this one as I experience the same issue.

Furthermore, I use processed TIFF files, so I go into the image parameters and set them camera curve to linear in this area, then save the template. However I have noticed, when using the batch stitch pipeline, the software doesn't remember or adhere to this setting.

Happy to provide test files if needed.

This should now be fixed in v12.11.

Hi Joost,

I've just tested this and for me, on v12.11 the camera curve is still being modified using the batch processor to create the projects with the template. Here's the setting I've used for the template:

image.png

I'm using TIFF files, so as I understand it, this should result in the template camera curve being used. However, I can see the camera curve is often modified by a small amount:

image.png

Have I set this setting incorrectly?

If you need, I can make the files and template available for testing. (they are quite large however)

Thanks!

Hi Conrad,

I think you would also need to change this in your template:

Exposure/HDR -> Settings -> Camera Response Curve: Keep Current

or this:

Project Settings -> Align Images behavior:
uncheck Perform automatic exposure and color adjustment

Otherwise, Align Images will optimize the camera curve, discarding your
template's settings.

Hi Joost,

I checked the setting you suggested. I had all the settings correct except for "Perform automatic exposure and color adjustment" was checked.

However, upon unchecked it, I have found the issue is now worse than before as the camera curve, which should remain a strait linear line, is now a full S-Curve when I use the template in a batch mode.

I'm logging off for the evening so I will email you the template file in case you can look through it and find a setting that we have made incorrect.

Hi Conrad,

Your batch_created_project_example.pts was created with PTGui Pro 12.10.

So it seems you are somehow running the batch builder in v12.10 instead
of 12.11?

Kind regards,

Ohhhh, my mistake!

I have 12.11 installed on my personal computer where I created the template but I forgot to update the rendering machine to the latest version!
I can confirm it's working as expected now.
