Gigapixel image.pngHi,

I have a gigapixel image with 900,000 x 37,000 pixels getting exported now as a BigTIFF. I want to ask if you have any suggestions on a third party software that could read this TIFF file or is it better to export it in four parts to have each part less than 300,000 pixels in one dimension? Thank you.

I have not tried this myself, but I found this: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/146390-what-are-the-maximum-image-pixel-dimensions-affinity-can-handle/

Affinity Photo seems to have a larger limit than Photoshop. But I think you will run into issues one way or the other with an image that large.

tgah...
Photoshop has a 300,000px dimension limit. If you want to use Photoshop for editing you will have to use an app to slice the image into 3 sections 300,000px wide each, edit, then join them again.
This has it's own problems because edits at the boundary may not blend properly.
Affinity photo can handle very large images.

I've issues with affinity and things it says it can handle. I ended up with tiffs unreadable with anything else than affinity and that were forced under 4gb file limits. Not to talk about affinity interface that's something still confusing me after years. I never left photoshop and had to go back to it every now and than. Affinity for me was an huge amount of lost time (and temper). :-(

Hi Luca
I am away for two weeks, with only my laptop, which is not very powerful.
When I get back I will check my Affinity Photo file formats, because it is the only program that seems to be able to edit large images...I can't remember the format that I was using.
With my Mecha head, 60Mpx Sony A7R4 and long lenses, I expect that this problem will become more common!
Best Regards

Well, interiors here, so focusing issues, and multiple lens to set to compensate breathing.
GFX100s and 45mm with mecha. Once things are perfect it's a steal. Only one 16 bit shot and no bracketing. 62 shots for a panorama, a few minutes shooting, a few minutes deraw from flat curve+xrite profile, ptgui takes seconds.
If something goes wrong, it's hell. Days trying to edit a picture. As soon ptgui will be able to eat PSB it will be better.
With a mecha is virtually impossible to reposition your camera for a custom shot, it's really giving you hard times
My attitude is to shoot multiple nadir pictures, and shadow correcting pictures, as pictures to remove some of the reflections or shiny undetailed surfaces. Then all is composed in ptgui. If any photoshop intervention is needed I do it on the original images, usually Argb 16bit tiffs.
When you need to patch a nadir, I use the ptgui project and extract a nadir at 100% resolution of the suggested one. Tiff16 no layer. I modify and save in photoshop. When I re-import it in the same PTGUI project it has its metadata, I just have to say it was at -90 <3
Shit happens if you go LARGE with the resolution, or your nadir patch has to be large, larger than 4Gb, Adobe will read it but will not be saving it back.
Tricks with irfanview helped me but having those bigtiffs back in the project somewhat made the whole thing impossible to render.
Affinity was a very bad experience for me.

Haha, Luca...I suffer from the same problems. It's not easy for an old dog like me to learn new tricks!
So, I swear a lot at Photoshop for letting me down and try to ;earn some basic tools in Affinity.

Best Regards
Barney

FOUND a free bigtiff-psb-bigtiff converter. Works like a charm amnd ptgui works very well with that.

Hi Luca
I made a post here about a very large pano that I shot of Melbourne from the Heidelberg Town Hall 9km away.
Melbourne from 9km A7R2 400mm
I shot a single row of RAW files, converted to TIFF, stitched in PTGUI Pro
The pano is 532k px wide 11.6GB PSB file
Photoshop won't open it but Affinity photo does.

Hi guys
PSB format is supported, but if I output a TIFF format from PTGUI it won't open in Affinity Photo.

Hi Luca
I checked my 532k px Wide pano. It is in PSB format.
The PSB is 12GB.
Photoshop reports "Couldn't open the file because it is not compatible"
Affinity photo opens the PSB without problems.
My Windows 11 task manager reports that Affinity is using 37.438 GB of memory (43% of my ram)
I'm not sure how to interpret this because I have 128GB RAM
54.5GB RAM is In use and 73.3GB is available
