Hello again,
Pls find my comments in your text below...
I don't know if this could be interesting to post this to the PTGui Group ?
How to do it ? I try by sending a cc. to the Group.
Best Rgds,
Didier

Subject: your reply about the sigma 8 to 16
Hi Didier,
Thank you so much for all that good info!
About to buy the Sigma 8 to 16 mm since I can use the same lens when going from stills to 360x 180 pans.
Not crazy about 2 pans of 6 stills as looks like with the 8 fisheye all you need is 4 plus a nadir.
Ok, although 2x6 + nadir is fast enough to implement,
in my opinion.
But as you mentioned it will give a better resolution and overall image?
Resolution : given 7D mode L (portrait mode horiz = 3456 px)
Fisheye 8 mm : FoV (portrait mode) is 111° => equirect 360° will give 360/111*3456 = 11208 pixels horizontally
Rectilin 8 mm : FoV (portrait) is 85.9° => equirect gives 360/85.9*3456 = 14484 pixels horiz
How did you figure out the angle change difference when shooting the 2 sixes?
I'm not quite sure that I understand your question :-(
If you are talking about the "delta-pitch", here
is my method : given a vertical FoV of 108.7 (8mm rectilin), I want the FoV of
the 1st row to cover the zenith with a 5° safety margin (i.e. FoV must reach
+95°). So, I set the 1st row pitch at :
+95 - 108.7/2 = 40.7° (say 40°)
For the 2nd row, same reasoning but this time willing the FoV to reach -90° (*). So, the pitch setting is :
-(90-108.7/2) = - 35.65° (say -35°)
The overlap will be 35%.
(*) this will include the (unnecessary) panohead footprint. Then, I replace 90 with 85 in the formula; that gives -30° pitch and will increase the overlap to 39%.
Are you using a Nodal Ninja system?
Yes, the NN3 MkII. I bought it when I was using a 500D. It is a bit borderline with the 7D weight, so I envisage buying the NN4.
Thanks ahead for your help!
