I have read the manual seveal tiems and while i do not understand a lot of the techncal terms there seems to be nothing that  tells me how to simply stitch 2 scans from a flatbed scanner into one  contiguous picture. I tried a number of projections etc and  constantly get pincushioned panoramas,  none of the horizontal lines remined horizontal and everything is interpreted through some kind of distortion ( lens) What are the correct settings to use for a flatbed scanner?
THanks in advance

Richard, PTGui is not designed to do this type of stitching, but see
FAQ:

Thanks for the quick response. Well no wonder I found nothing about it. I
tried your suggestions but the results are just short of disgusting. I
guess I need to find another snitcher that atctually understands mosaics ...
Any suggestions?

Try Microsoft Image Composite Editor. Seems to work fairly well without too many issues.

Hi Richard
I recently stitched,  very successfully, an image  in 4 sections  on an A4 flatbed scanner...scan the image in sections in the normal way ..with some overlap...then load the images in PGui...and align images etc ...and it should stitch perfectly.

With the right settings it should be possible. If you would like to get
help please post your images and project file here, see 3.17:

Are your pictures taken from the same viewpoint? .ie did you rotate the camera around its lens?
If so, you should be able to input in the lens information (focal length) and crop factor of the sensor manually into PTGui.
There are no settings for a flatbed scanner, the settings are for the lens that you used to take the picture, (this information is normally recorded into a digital capture and is automatically read by PTGui)

If you took the pictures from different viewpoints you have a problem. You can fool a panoramic stitcher as per the help file but it is slightly complicated.
Photoshop / Photoshop Elements with a lot of dragging around, distorting and blending is one way to go.

Richard, You need to post here a link (or links) to the file(s) so
they can be downloaded.

Ah sorry -
Here is a link
http://ge.tt/6Qn2YSb?c There should be 4 files 2 jpegs of a bout 6MB
comprising the two files I am trying to stitch together, the 37MB file (
altho why the panoram turns out 6 times larger than either of the input
files - I have no idea, and the pts file. Its basically a wiring diagram of
one of my projects on 2 8.5/11 sheets and I want to put them together on
one sheet of 8.5 by however long it should be.
Regards
Richard

Richard, you had a misplaced control point that skewed the alignment.
I corrected that and added some more points with the "generate control
points here" function. The fov should not be included in the
optimized parameters. The images stitched ok and you can find my
project file + stitched image here: http://ge.tt/1UWswTb/v/0

Wow im impressed - I guess I really have to spend more time rtfm. This is
exactly how I imagined it was supposed to look, but good grief more than 15
control points!!
Thank you
