My Dual FishEye plugin on Theta Z1 misbehaved this week. I got all needed images, but it did not combine in-camera as expected. I had to use Lightroom Photo Merge > HDR to combine each group of 7 images into one HDR Dual Fisheye image. Now, unfortunately the Theta Stitcher plugin will not recognize the combined dual fisheye ".dng" file.

I tried dropping it onto PTGui, but it didn't seem to recognize the file. Does anyone know how I can process the combined ".dng" file in PTGui? Can you explain the process please?

Thanks!

Hi David,

Normally PTGui will recognize a Z1 image based on its metadata. The
image will be loaded twice and each copy is cropped to one of the fisheyes.

In your images the metadata was lost (or maybe it was lost when posting
to the forum). You can fix it by loading the image twice and applying a
succesful earlier stitch as a template.

I've attached a project file for your image.

Kind regards,

What kind of images are acceptable? If I drop in ".dng" files I see blue/white checkered images (guess PTGui doesn't do .dng?). Otherwise, I am okay with JPG or TIFF.

Thanks!

DNGs should work. Blue/white means PTGui was unable to load the images.

If you think there's a problem, please make a file available for
download and I'll take a look.

David, You might have mentioned the error message that is output when your DNG images are added:

"LibRaw: unsupported number of channels: 0.  Only RGB images are supported."

LibRaw is the raw converter used by PTGui.  Like the Theta Stitcher plugin, it doesn't care for the dng files that Lightroom has generated.

Sorry for oversight. Is there a work-around in Lightroom to generate better .dng file?

John,

I'm finding this file particularly difficult...

Every time I load it in PTGui and run Align Images it looks all wonky.

Do you have any ideas/suggestions??

Thanks so much!
David

David, I cannot help with Adobe's dng file problems.  All I can suggest is to output tiff instead, which should be perfectly satisfactory for PTGui.

As to your problem images, I got a good stitch by assigning control points manually (not many of them, owing to a lack of clear features in the limited overlap areas).  I also assigned several vertical line points on vertical edges to correct barrel distortion (half and full height), and selected the optimizer option to deal with the vertical line points in the 1st optimization pass (in Advanced mode).  This is the only way to get decent lens distortion correction parameters evaluated with just two images. Really, you need to calibrate the lens properly by shooting the scene twice, panning the camera around by 90 degrees between them, so as to get a huge image overlap.  You can then delete one pair of images when successfully aligned, and use the resulting project file as a template for future stitches.

Hi David,

It's a special kind of dng file, an HDR floating point DNG. PTGui 12
supports these, PTGui 11 does not.

You can download PTGui 12 beta here:
