Hello PTGui experts,

I need help.

I'm trying to create a "linear" panorama (or I found on the internet that someone called it a multi-viewpoint panorama) -- one that stitches photos taken from multiple viewpoints into an image that can be compared to planned construction elevation.(see examples below)

I was imagining taking photos as I moved parallel to the current building (kinda like a Google Earth car moving down the street) -- instead of staying in one place and rotating the camera.

See below for a construction elevation I found on the internet (not my project) -- but it is a great example of what a construction elevation looks like.  I want to take photos as I move along the street, perpendicular to the shopping center, and have them "stitched" into what the current elevation looks like looking "straight on" just like these drawings below.

It looks like PTGUI only stitches when photos are taken from a single point... but that does not work. The building looks "Flat" but the aisles of cars are all curved.

ANY help or suggestions would be great!!!

Thank you,
Steven

Hi Steven,

Orthogonal panoramas (taken from multiple viewpoints) are possible only
if the subject is completely flat. Otherwise there's parallax and
stitching will fail. Usually these kind of images are created through a
lot of manual labor in (eg) Photoshop.

Shooting from a single viewpoint is possible. To preserve straight lines
you would need to use rectilinear projection. The result will look
exactly like what you would get when taking an image with a very wide
angle lens. So at the edges of the image, any depth will be extremely
exaggerated.

Alternatively, if you have a video camera with definition adequate for your final product, you can take a video moving along parallel to the subject of your intended panorama. Then you can mask all but a narrow vertical slit of each frame (or every Xth frame). These will assemble easily into what you want.
