Hi PTGui team and developer,

The new Photoshop Sky Replacement feature is really great and it can also be used equirectangular panorama images. However, the resulting sky is not seamless which is noticed when viewing the panorama in a viewer (or shifting the image pixels horizontally).

Is there a trick to achieve a seamless result? I tried it with two consecutive panorama images, side by side, but the sky replacement tool doesn't handle these very wide skies correctly.

Thanks and
with best regards

You can use custom skies and add them to photoshop. If you download skies for 360 images or cut them from 360 images I know it works without seams. Naturally, you will have to adjust the width of your sky to match that of your equirectangular. You will also have to align your panorama so the sun is at the same angle location as your sun in the new sky. You can do that prior to creating your panorama in ptgui.

Hi Steve,

thanks for your answer! Custom skies would be very useful inded. I could prepare some seamless skies
(either by using them from an existing panorama or by retouching the seams of existing skies).
How can I import a custom sky? I have searched already for instructions or tutorials, but I was unable to find anything.

By the way, Photoshop also allows for some time now to import an equirectangular image as 3D panorama layer which can be retouched using the existing tools and filters, including the sky replacement.
I have to experiment a bit and find out whether the sky replacement is able to work seamlessly (it is not just the sky but also other color related adjustments).

Thanks and
with best regards

If only PhotoShop was as well documented and supported as PTGUI :-)

When you go EDIT, SKY REPLACEMENT you get a little dialog box with skies...

At the top, there's a sky icon with a little bar to the right and an arrow pointing down

Click on it and you will get a little gear for settings where you can create a new group of skies, add an individual sky or folder of skies or import your new skies, etc...

(Alternatively at the bottom, you will see a folder icon for new groups and a + icon for new skies...)

Hope this helps, I'm working off a WIndows PC

I have a Photoshop sky replacement tutorial that I wrote back in 2012.  It's still useful despite looking its age.  You may find  useful.

Thanks,

It's pretty much the method I use to complete my skies from drone panoramas created with PTGUI 11

PTGUI12 has a fill feature that can work fairly well to complete the sky in some situations...
