As of late, I have begun experiencing issues with HDR wherein the past none had occurred.  It is in regard to me being told that PTGUI cannot do the HDR stitch because the the images cannot be linked because the shutter timings are inconsistent.  I took a look at the FAQs and found one related to this topic.  I followed the instructions with no joy.  Still get the error message even trying to link an individual set of photographs (see attached).  Tried on the next three set of images and received same error.

pTGUI 1.JPG

My images are taken on a detented pano head system and all exposures are of the same interval.  You can see the file information on the screenshot image below.  Images are shot in Manual mode on a Canon camera system, same way I have been doing so for years without issue on PTGUI (in "M", set exposure, aperture, ISO and bracketing delta (e.g., 1 stop between exposures).  I use Live view with 2-second timer which with Canon cameras allows one shutter "press" to take all photos in rapid fire mode (5-shots in this case), then I rotate to next detented position and repeat).

ptgui 2.JPG

All images (105 in total in this case) have the exact same timings (1/60, 1/30, 1/15, 1/8, 1/4) and all are in order.

Unfortunately, if you ask, I will not be able to tell you when this started happening (i.e., after what software update for example because I often update without doing HDR stitching) other than "recently", say 2023.

I do not see anything that would be cause for this problem.  Does anyone see anything wrong based on the screenshots provided?  There is a very sight difference in Yaw in the first photo, but none of the others have such a difference.  It is frustrating to say the least.  Never had issue with the software until recently.

Thanks

Hi Andrew,

Could you post your project file here? Just the PTGui project file,
without the images.

Starting at image 81, you've shot with f18 rather than f16. That's why PTGui doesn't recognize bracketing.

Damn, I must have brushed against the wheel at back of camera!

But does that explain why I cannot individually link the first three sets of images individually?

Also I should mention that I basically ended up stitching one set of exposures (middle bracket) then made templates and stitched the other four exposures and then merged output in separate HDR software.  PTGUI did not have an issue with slightly different f/stop in merging images in the regular (non-HDR) mode.

Hi Andrew,

You can always link images manually by selecting a group in the Source
Images tab, right click, 'Link Selected Images'.

Or in this particular case, just change the f18 to f16 in the Image
Parameters tab. This overrides the values found in Exif. Then you can
use Images -> Link HDR Bracketed Exposures as normal.

I will try the changing of f18 to f16.

But I do want to reiterate that when I tried to just link 5 images (e.g., 1-5) individually, which were all at f/16, I got the same error message (they would not link).  Is that because the software was looking at all 105 images and saw the problem starting at image 81, and so still would not let me do the individual sets of brackets manually?  Just trying to understand how this works for the future.

Thanks

Hi Andrew,

It's not that sophisticatedl. 'Link HDR Bracketed Exposures' tries to
find a repeating sequence for the entire project, so it will either link
all 105 images or none.

To link only the selected images, choose "Link selected Images" from the
Images menu.

Got it.  I was selecting 5 images and then using the HDR bracket option which would be for all images.  I missed the link selected images option in the pull down.
