Hi,
Is there a way to automatically detect and exclude control points in the sky with shifted clouds to avoid having to manually remove them, or perhaps another method to quickly remove them? I mean different types of photos but especially where objects overlap the sky, because then it is difficult to select it. But e.g. in photos from a drone too, where there is half of the sky - this would also speed up the work.

Hi Jakub,

There's no easy way to remove them. But you can prevent PTGui from
placing control points by adding red masks. After aligning the images,
all red masks can be deleted quickly: in Source Images select all
images, right click, Clear Mask. For drone panoramas you could use a
template to set up the masks.

Hi Joost,
I know this method, but I thought that maybe v.13 had a new tool for detecting anomalies in adjacent photos and it could be implemented here somehow. Unfortunately, in the case of drone panoramas, where there are several dozen component photos, masking takes some time. Maybe deleting points in non-adjacent photos could have any application here?

But with drone panoramas you're always shooting the same sequence. Then
you can create a template which only applies a set of masks like this:

After adding the masks to a project, go to Project Settings
Go to Template Behavior and uncheck everything there except for 'Image
Masks'
Then do File - Save As Template and give it a suitable name

Now when you apply this template, it will only change the masks and
nothing else.

Removing control points from non adjacent images might help a bit, just
give it a try.

Thanks Joost,
And is there a way to create a mask for the sky with "one cut", without having to do it for each component photo in turn? If not, then in the case of a panorama with 137 photos, I would have to make masks on 69 photos separately. And after making a template, the permanent mask would not always cover the area I want exactly, because sometimes some objects enter the sky, especially if they are close - they must have precise control points, because there is a high risk of parallax. Then maybe there would be a quick method to separate these objects with one cut as well? Maybe I don't know the more specialized tools in v. 13 well enough and they are hidden somewhere?

Hi Jakub,

No I'm sorry, that's not something PTGui can do.

By the way, I think (generally speaking) it's best to avoid placing
control points on objects with parallax. While this may somewhat improve
the alignment on that particular object, those control points will pull
the entire panorama out of alignment, potentially causing many small
stitching errors elsewhere.

OK, I understand. However, I often have to deal with this parallax, making drone panos with close objects and I still don't have a quick method for optimally placing control points, creating masks and seams - sometimes it takes a lot of time to get a satisfactory result without having to fix it in Photoshop, which sometimes also takes hours, especially with gigapanoramas. But still PTGui is probably the best and unrivaled software (I don't know if not the only one) for such tasks and I hope it will always be like that and will be better and better :)
