Hi Wim and others,

I'll prepare a full tutorial when the 8.1 version is finalized
(otherwise I'd keep myself busy taking screenshots). But basically it
works like this:

1. (optional) create a template for your new projects. Leave the output
file field empty. You may configure the default filenames in the Project
Settings tab. To avoid overwriting, be sure to choose 'Panorama: same as
project name'. This will ensure that the output files have a unique
name. (the Batch Builder will ensure that the project files have unique
names by optionally appending (1), (2) etc)

Here you can also choose in which folders the project file and output
files will be stored. By default they will go into the source image
folder, but you could also set up dedicated folders for your project
files and panoramas.

And you can define how much automated the control point detection should
be: do you only want PTGui to generate control points, or should it also
pick a suitable projection and fov, and straighten the panorama?

2. Run the Batch Builder and choose 'Generate new projects'. There are
three detection options:

- One panorama per folder: if you have already organized your source
images in separate folders. Select the top folder, and PTGui will look
in all sub folders (and sub sub folders, and so on) and generate project
files for each folder that contains one or more images.

- Multiple panoramas per folder with a fixed number of images:
For example if a folder contains 100 images and you set 'Images per
panorama' to 7, you will get 15 project files. Images are sorted
alphabetically. Once again this works hierarchically, so for sub folders
and sub sub folders as well.

- Group images taken around the same time: If a series of images was
taken with a maximum interval of (e.g.) 20 seconds, consider them to
form a panorama. You can set additional options such as the minimum
number of consequtive shots, focal length and whether all images should
have the same exposure.

3. After pressing OK, PTGui will try to find your panoramas and display
the sets of source images (one panorama per row). You can remove
unwanted sets, remove individual images, etc. Actual project files are
not yet created at this time.

4. Choose the desired template (if you created one) or just choose 'New
empty project' which will use the default settings (which you may have
overridden using Make Default). By default this stores the project files
and panorama in the source image folder.

The projects will be added to a new batch list, you can pick a name or
use the default.

5. Finally press Generate Projects to generate the project files.

The Batch List can be loaded in the Batch stitcher; it will generate
control points, store those in the project file and create the panorama.

Hello Joost,

Thanks for the quick tutorial.
Most of it is clear but I still have a few questions.

1) When I choose myself a batch list name then as soon as I press the
"Generate Projects" button the name is replaced by a name based on the
default date-time format (OSX on iMac G5)
This issue is not important at all but I wonder why the list file is
not removed by the Stitcher when it has finished its job.
I tried but it is not possible to load the list file into the Batch
stitcher so I guess it could be better deleleted when it is no more
needed.

2) Is it possible to add an option in the Project Settings that makes
it impossible to stitch a project that has no CP's between images and
to give a warning ?
(f.e. with red, instead of green, colored text of the template name in
the stitcher's window)
A pano that is not correctly optimized because CP's are missing
between images is only consuming proccesor time .....

Thanks again,
Wim

Actually it has just proposed a new Batch List name for the next set of
projects that you are going to generate. But I agree this should be
changed as it is not very clear.

Good suggestion, thanks.
