Sadly have stopped using PTGUI because of this feature in Panorama Studio Pro

This has been the way for a couple of years and I was wondering if this has changed. With drone stitches it seems any case where there are no obvious image areas (e.g blank sky) even though I have this setting on in PTGUI...

...PTGUI returns this when trying to stitch

However selecting a similar setting in Panorama Studio Pro...

Results in a perfect stitch no manual effort required at all...

It used to be that PTGUI was my gold standard and I actually prefer the interface but without this ability it's hard to go back to.

Am I missing anything, has there been any upgrade or additional feature that will do this?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks

Andrew,  Are all of the images correctly positioned immediately after loading them in?  And do you then have these settings in the Project Settings tab before Align Images is run?

So without that ticked most are aligned where there is detail but the ones that don't just get stacked up in the middle and that message displays.  If I check that box it's worse

Please make a set of images available for download. Downsized copies
would be ok, but ensure that the metadata is included. Use wetransfer,
dropbox or similar and post the link in this thread.

Andrew,  I assume that when your images are loaded in, they are reasonably well positioned.  If you then run "Generate control points for all overlapping images" and run the optimizer, the bland images without control points should remain in position and the remaining images should be aligned with each other.  You should not get the bland images stacked in the middle. Which version of PTGui are you using?

Hi John

I have been using PTGUI for years and have never ever positioned an image in a stitch ever. That includes monster 360 sphericals plus multi row panoramas. I don't in Panorama Studio Pro either.

Examples (can take a while to load in 360 cities)  https://andrewbusst.wixsite.com/mysite/360-panoramas

Cheers

Andrew     (sorry if reply doubled up sent it from Gmail but didn't appear here)

Andrew, Thanks for the images.  On loading them into PTGui, they don't get positioned automatically. But Align Images produces a good result anyway without making any changes.  This is with PTGui Pro V13.  See my project file (attached).

Hi John

Thanks for trying that out.

So I'm running version 12.27 which does have an option in the menu to line up images by metadata but did that not work in that version?

I downloaded the trial version  13.2 and all those problematic stitches and in fact a 20 stitch 95% blue sky with a moon and small strip of land at the bottom also stitched perfectly.

Are you saying the only way to get this functionality is to upgrade to the 13.2 version?

Do you know which version enabled this to work properly?

Many thanks

Andrew, Your sample set of images does contain orientation data that V13 can use to position the images automatically.  I was mislead by the small image in the Panorama Editor that looked just like a stack of images after loading,  Zooming in revealed a full aligned image!  V12 did not manage to do this, as you have found.  Upgrade to V13 would seem to be the only option.  V13.2 seems to be when the facility worked for your camera.

I’m on mobile at the moment; is this indeed the Mavic 4 Pro? DJI have for some reason changed the XMP namespace for their positioning metadata in recent drones (or in recent firmware for other drones as well? I’m not sure). Support for this was added in the latest 13.2 PTGui update.

In case you don’t wish to upgrade your license: I think you can load your images in the PTGui 13 trial version, save the project and then continue working in v12. You can install both side by side. Just give it a try.

Kind regards,

Joost Nieuwenhuijse

Thanks Joost

Very kind of you to suggest that work around but I do like complete software so I think I will run with the upgrade.

It did seem very weird to me that software of this calibre would do those stitches so thank you all for your rapid responses.

Many thanks

Thanks John

All becomes clear now. I will probably go with the upgrade as I do like the interface.

Thanks for getting to the bottom of the issue.

Many thanks
