Hi all,
I want to stitch a vertical panorama from a group of trees. Instead of panning the camera horizontal I panned it Vertical.
The attached image is an example of what I want to achieve. I aligned this vertical panorama by warping and distorting the images in Photoshop by hand.
That took a lot of time and effort. I tried all sorts of ways but I just can't find out how to do this in PTGui? Can PTGui do this an if it does how do I have to proceed?
Thanks,
Jeu

A vertical panorama is not really any different to a horizontal panorama. PTGui doesn't care how you pan and/or tilt the camera. If the panorama ends up horizontal rather than vertical, just rotate it using either the rotate buttons on the Project Assistant or by dragging/rotating the image in the Panorama Editor window. Beware of unsightly stretching at the top if the vertical angle of view is excessive (> 120 degrees, say). For correct perspectives, position the horizon along the centre of the Panorama Editor window.

Hi Jeu,
Basically you would just load all your images and press Align Images.
For very tall vertical panoramas (i.e. suppose you would rotate the
camera all the way over your head until it is upside down) you need a
suitable projection which is able to cover the wide vertical field of
view. The 'transverse' projections in PTGui can do that. See the
Panorama Editor -> Projection menu. But for narrower panoramas any
projection will be possible.
As with any panorama, take care to prevent parallax. You should rotate
the camera in such a way that the no-parallax point is kept at the same
position. For most cameras this point is close to the front of the lens,
so the camera should be rotated around the front of the lens. Watch the
video tutorial to learn more.

Hi John,
Thanks for your reaction. I used the rotate buttons in PTGui and that was an improvement. Though I had to add a lot of controlpoints I managed to produce a very nice panorama. Due to the fact that the images I took are very dark and have a lot of branches and leaves PTGui had some problems to find enough controlpoints. Also my nodal point settings may have been somewhat off.
Thanks again,
Jeu
