I noticed that when I export my Panorama as a tif, some of the EXIF data is missing.  I lose the keyworks, camera/lens info as well as some of the IPTC info.  If I export it as a psd file, it strips everything.  Is there a way to change or fix this?

Thanks

Hi Ray,

You're right, PTGui 11 doesn't write most metadata to psd files and it
doesn't write XMP metadata (such as IPTC).

But both have been added to PTGui 12:

thanks.  I just downloaded the beta and I don't see any difference when exporting tif or psd files.  Is there something I need to change or set?

I'm still not having any luck with the latest beta in getting much EXIF date in my exported tif or psd files.

I can take a look if you could make your project available for download.

Hi Joost,

I'm having the same issues. I'm mostly looking for the EXIF Date/Time from the first image to be passed through. Using PTGui 12 Beta 15.

Hi Ray,

I see the Artist and Copyright EXIF fields are indeed missing from the
PTGui output, I will add them.

Lens data is not copied, for reasons: first of all lens model is stored
in camera-specific Maker Notes which are not standardized. PTGui can
read them for many cameras but it doesn't write it.

Secondly, the lens data refers to the original image but a panorama
would have different field of view and thus different (virtual) lens
data. I consider it to be incorrect to refer to the image as taken with
a 24mm lens.

And understand that metadata in images is an utter mess of different
ways to store the same data. There's exif, maker notes and XMP. If you
want metadata to be preserved, it's best to include them in XMP data in
your source images. PTGui will copy those. Currently your XMP is mostly
empty, containing only a 'rating' field:

<x:xmpmeta xmlns:x="adobe:ns:meta/"><rdf:RDF
xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#"><rdf:Description
rdf:about=""
xmlns:xmp="http://ns.adobe.com/xap/1.0/"><xmp:Rating>0</xmp:Rating></rdf:Description></rdf:RDF></x:xmpmeta>

Hi Conrad,

In my tests this works fine. You can also see the shooting date getting
copied to the output in the sample images Ray David just posted.

If you think there's a bug, please make the files available so I can
reproduce this.

Just in time for PTGui 12 beta 16: Artist and Copyright EXIF fields are
now copied to the output, both for TIFF and PSD files.

How do I add info to XMP data?  The main thing I'd like to have are the keywords, but basic camera/lens data would be great as well.

If you have Photoshop, you can do File - Info - IPTC. Basically anything
you fill here will be saved as XMP and preserved by PTGui.

Only thing is, for RAW files I think Photoshop not actually modifies the
raw file itself. Instead it creates a separate .xmp file which is not
used by PTGui. But if you save to TIFF, the xmp data is embedded in the
tif file.

And there are of course many other applications supporting XMP.

Ahh I see, the reason it's missing is that I'm exporting EXR files. I'll export a low res jpg file and do a metadata sync externally.

Thanks!

 Hi Joost,

I'm having the same issues. I'm mostly looking for the EXIF  Date/Time from the first image to be passed through.

My raw images are TIFF files with complete EXIF information about the camera (Canon EOS R5) and lens (Canon RF 15-35mm f / 2.8). I can calculate and output this panorama wonderfully with PTGUI. The output file (also TIFF 16 bit) contains only a few EXIF information. For example, all information about the lens I used is missing (Canon RF 15.35mm, this information is also found and used by PTGui) and the information on the date and time of the recording is also missing in the panorama.

I am using new full version 12.1 and ask for help.

I can provide the TIF files from my OneDrive cloud if that can be of use.

Many thanks in advance, Jens

Hi Jens,

The exif Original Shooting date should be copied the generated panorama.
If it doesn't work, could you provide a test image?

Note this comment posted earlier:
https://groups.google.com/g/ptgui/c/JJIuljzlObc/m/s874BGqFAQAJ

But i agree, it should copy over camera info unmodified, and the lens make/model used at least even if not including the focal length. Though i would prefer just everything to be copied over even if technically the image has changed..
