Hi all,

I'm excited to announce the next major release, PTGui 13, as a beta!

New in this version is the Patch Editor, which can be used to remove
unwanted objects from the stitched panorama, fill gaps, or fix small
stitching errors.

Also, PTGui 13 can output panoramas as DNG images. And JPEG2000 has been
added as input/output format.

RAW image handling has been improved, with noise reduction and CA
removal. In particular the handling of DJI DNG images is much improved.

Great new function "Patch Editor" but only for the Pro-Version. Pro is very expensive, to expensive for me.

Is there any prospect that the patch editor can also be made available as a plugin ( for little money ) for the non-pro-version ?

This would be very great.

hi joost,

i was too curious and i set everything aside i should do to give the v13b1 a testrun :-)
great work! exciting!

the patch editor is great!
the detail viewers numeric angle input is extremely helpful for outputting exactly north-aligned panos.
the best new feature imho is the raw pre-processing which kicks out the whole 16-bit tiff pre-production stage, which eliminates dozens of gigabytes of intermediate data!

regarding the DNG output (which is also great!): is it possible to output floating point DNGs for bracketed panos like you get in lightroom after HDR merging?
the tone value data should be present, i think. this would change these huge 32-bit TIFFs to the more slim HDR-DNGs.

Really exciting news, indeed! And a lot of welcome new features! Many
thanks for that!

However, for v13, are you planning to highlight the image that
contributes the clicked point to the result when you right-click in the
pano editor (and detail viewer) in zero overlap mode? That would save us
large overlap hand held shooters a real lot of time and trouble.

Good to hear/read. I have just upgraded to v13 – and downloaded the beta. I am still longing for cropping by proportions (4:5, 7:8, 3:4...). Could you pls add this?

When a new version is released, will there be any discount purchase promotions? For individual users, the price of the pro version is still a bit expensive.

I personally only need to activate on one computer. Can you provide an option to activate on only one computer? That is half the current price.

Hi!

No, I'm sorry, to keep things simple there are never any discounts or
promotions for PTGui.

And yes the personal license can be activated on 2 computers for
personal use, but this is to give users some flexibility. It doesn't
mean that one computer would be half the price though.

Great to hear that!

Yes, PTGui can output the HDR panorama as floating point DNG. Just
choose HDR File Format: DNG.

But this is basically just floating point TIFF with a different
extension. The files are just as large. EXR is a better choice.

First off, thanks so much! This opportunity to use a DNG workflow is thrilling. I paid my upgrade and am using the Beta.

If this is the wrong place for feedback, please direct me to the right place. Happy to comply.

Second, when I use the DNG workflow that also includes a TIF, and use the "100%" button to maximize the project output/export size, I gte this message, with no way to rectify it.

I tried the Optimizer, I aligned the images again, I tried to Initialize and Optimize again...
I also saved and reloaded the project.
Is the error suggesting I start from zero again (i.e. importing)?

Maximized it's 7801 x 10341 px (80.7 megapixels)
At the suggested size before clicking on 100%, it was 1490 x 1975 px (19.1 megapixels)

For zenith or nadir patching you can use my free templates, which still
work in v13:

Hi Matt,

This might be a bug. I tried loading a combination of DNG and TIF
images, but it worked fine, no errors.

Could you share your project file and images with me? And let me know
what you did to trigger the error?

Also, v13 has a new Snapshot function in the Detail Viewer, this works
in the standard version too. You can use it to extract a rectilinear view.

When I asked it to become 100% prior to export, the error occurred. I also tried removing the TIF, as it's quite unreasonable to include a TIF in a composition adn then ask for a DNG output (I realized after I posted...). But the error still happens even after removing the image from the project.

Here I described it:

Hi Philip,

Once PTGui 13 is out of beta, there will be no more updates for PTGui 12.

The lens profile is just a convenience though, with a template you can
stitch most kind of images.

Thank you for this new version, dng output is exiting !
But it seems there is an issue with DNG files from DJI Mavic 2 or 3, size error message in the logs.
Works fine with NEF from Nikon D850 or ARW from Sony A5100.

Hi Jerome,

Yes, a similar issue was reported. I will investigate. I'm not sure but
you could try stitching in the GUI instead of in the batch stitcher,
perhaps this works for now.

No this is a bug, related to DNG source images. I was able to reproduce
it in a newly created project in PTGui 13 beta.

Will be fixed soon.

It looked great on my first run through, apart from the Patch Editor.

When I click Patch Editor, an alert dialog opens that says "bad_optional_access". Nothing else happens. This is with all file formats and with both 'save' options.

A minor thing that I think is already on your lists somewhere, but if I grab just below the actual window titlebar in either the main document window or the Panorama Editor window, I'm able to drag them behind the macOS menu bar. If I drag the top of a window out of site and let go (yes, silly, but not all that hard to do by accident), I can't get it back without quitting and reopening the document.

Hi Keith,

I'd like to fix that. I assume it's related to your specific source
images. Could you verify this by just loading a simple jpeg image and
invoking the patch editor?

And if that's indeed the case, could I have your project that triggers

the error?

Hi Keith,

This should be mostly fixed now.

On multi monitor setups it might still be possible to move the window to
some hidden place if you try hard, but then restarting PTGui should help.
