I have a Dell XPS M1350 computer with window Vista installed and 4GB
of RAM. I recently went to stitch a 196 image spherical HDR panorama
but got an out of memory error while the images were being aligned. I
subsequently reduced the number of images to make a cylindrical
panorama and got an out of memory error while generating the image in
the HDR screen. There is 140GB of free space on my hard disk which I
think should be plenty for temporary files.
Can you please offer me some advice on how to avoid the memory errors.

it is most likely that your 140GB isn't enough temp space for ptgui,
especially if you are doing a HDR project.
you can check under ptgui, projects, calc required temp space for your
panorama and see if it fits onto your HD. also, check to see if your
RAM settings for ptgui are set to something like 3GB (and no other app
is running)
workarounds:
1. add another internal SATA disk and configure it as temp space for
ptgui (don't use an external USB2 drive, since they are too slow)
2. pre-render your tiles to HDR in another app (photomatix, enfusegui,
or whatever your process is) and stitch those instead.
3. drop brackets: if you have bracketed excessively, drop some of the
inbetween exposures
4. buy a bigger/better/faster computer with a more up-to-date OS

Hi John,

Most likely the problem can be solved by reducing the amount of RAM used
by PTGui. Go to Tools-Options-Advanced and set the RAM percentage to a
lower value, e.g. 30%. PTGui will start to use the hard disk for temp
space once this limit is reached so you won't get out of memory errors.

No need to guess here: With one project loaded and all settings ready to
stitch go to menu Project->Calculate Required Temporary Disk Space...
