Greetings

Is there a way of using ptgui to overlay one image on top of another
and perfectly align the same details from both images by using
control points?

ie the first image is a completed stitched panorama
the second image is a much smaller image that is the same as a portion
of the panorama.
I would like to warp the smaller image so thats its details align
perfectly with the same details in the panorama.
I would also prefer to avoid further warping of the panorama in the
process.

The panorama was stitched from images of focal length 50mm and the
smaller image is also from the same lens.
the second image is not exactly the same as any of the images used to
create the panorama.

I have tried photomerge in CS5 and it works but is not as close as I
would like it to be

I have been told to use individual lens parameters but dont understand
the process.

another question...when using control points to align two images, does
ptgui force them all into alignment or
is it just a "best fit"

regards
Phil

Hi Phil,

I've added a tutorial to the Support page for you. See 5.33:
http://www.ptgui.com/support.html#5_33

Hope this helps.

It's a best fit. There's a morphing option in the optional Panorama
Tools stitcher (PTStitcher) that applies additional distortion to
bring the points into exact alignment, but even then there is no
provision to morph only one image to align with a fixed image.

Thanks Joost and John

very helpful information. I am yet to apply it. I wonder if I can
combine the method described by Joost with the PTstitcher morphing
option mentioned by John to force control point alignment while
affecting only 1 image

No - I'm afraid that's not possible. The points in both images are
shifted towards each other. You cannot keep the points in one image
fixed and morph the points in another image into alignment with them.
