David, That's fair enough. It maybe that we don't properly understand
what you are trying to do. If you say what you have tried and in what
way it does't work, maybe we can suggest what is going wrong. On the
face of it, it looks like you are simply asking how the format for the
output file can be selected to be JPEG. Yet that is the default
output setting anyway. But the actual question asked was "Is there a
way to convert files in PTGUI to .jpg?", which could mean something
more specific. If so, please clarify.
It would be pertinent to comment on the wisdom of using JEPG format in
relation to image editing with Photoshop or any other program. JPEG
is a lossy format in which a degree of image quality is irretrievably
lost each time the file is saved to disc, in exchange for the benefits
of compressing the image data into a smaller file size. The balance
between quality and compression is controlled by a quality parameter.
Best practice is to use a lossless format such as TIFF or PSD/PSB,
which preserves the image data 100% intact with only a relatively
small degree of compression. Picky people will also prefer to use
16bit files too. Only when the editing process is complete should the
image be finally rendered in JPEG format, according to the use to be
made of the file.
