Hello All

I need to create some 360 panoramas. Ideally I want to shoot single row panoramas 6-8 rows + 1 up +1 down.
I currently have a full frame Nikon D700 camera, a Manfrotto 190 tripod and a Neweer PH-720B Cradle head.
What lens would you recommend if I need to overlap the shots between 15-35% please?

Many thanks
Joshua Akin

Thanks Erik,

So yo would not recommend the 16mm Nikon fisheye lens?

So using Samyang (Bower, Rokinon, Walimex) 12mm fisheye for my purposes and PTgui and PanoVR2 software to create 360 panos will do the trick?

Thanks
Joshua

Or Tokina 11-16mm lens for D700?

I don't know it, so I can't recommend it. I suspect it's a good lens,
but it costs trice as much as the Samyang, which is also a good lens.

One benefit of the Samyang is it's unique mapping which doesn't compress
the borders as much as a conventional fisheye does. This makes stitching
easier and you get sharper details at the borders. That's why I now
exclusively use it instead of my Zenitar 16mm (which is said to be a
cheap copy of the Nikkor).

Hello Erik,

Thanks for your advice on the  Samyang 12mm fisheye lens. Would there any other accessories that I need in my workflow? Thank you in advice and keep up the good work :--).

Regards
Joshua

Yes, you need a proper multi-row panoramic tripod head with the ability
to adjust the no-parallax-point (the point around which to rotate) in
both horizontal and vertical directions. And a tripod of course.

There are ways to shoot without a tripod, but that is considered
advanced technique, which needs a lot of practice and which complicates
stitching very much.

May I ask what you intend to shoot and what the purpose is?

Hi Erik, how many shots do you think I would need with the Samyang 12mm Nikon lens and Nikon D700 camera combination, to get a 360 x 180 panorama please?

Thanks
Josh

I have been requested to shoot interiors of a Covent at three different locations and may have to create hotspots to create a tour. These will not be online , but played on the panoVR2 offline player on the desktop. So I am trying to make this as simple as possible. I have also been recommended to rent a Nikon D7200 with Nikon 10.5mm fisheye lens, which works very well with the Neweer pano head.

Right now, I only have a Nikon D700, which I what to run some tests before purchasing/renting equipment.

Thanks again

Josh

6 around plus zenith and nadir works well. 4 around does still overlap,
but not much (about 15%). If you shoot slanted (60° roll) the zenith
will be covered if you pitch at least 6° up. So the theoretical minimum
pattern would be 4 around slanted plus nadir.
